The truth is, Francois is actually jealous of Oliver. He envies his ability to make children like him. He wishes he put more effort into raising Matt (2p Canada) instead of his drinking and smoking habits. Francois had a rough childhood of his own and naturally some of his parents' habits rubbed onto the way he treated Matt even if he didn't want that to happen. He always secretly coveted Oliver's positivity and friendliness.
