Avoid washing your hair daily. Your hair produces natural oils which add shine and softness; washing your hair removes these oils. While removing them is necessary as they build up and become greasy in appearance over time, washing your hair every day can strip away a healthy amount of oil. Go at least one day between washes, but put as many days between washes as possible.

Stay away from heat products. Using blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons burn your hair and create split ends. This dry, fragile, and broken hair will be difficult to smooth and appear dead and dull. Try using heating tools as little as possible, once a week only if you are able. Always let your hair air dry after you wash it.

3
Take vitamin supplements. Certain supplements, such as Omega-3 oil, fish oil, and vitamin E, improve the shine and growth of your hair. Purchase these in a gel-capsule form from a local health food store, and take them on a daily basis.

4
Trim off split ends. Over time, your hair will look damaged and dry if it is not trimmed as a result of split ends. Take time every 3-4 months to get a hair trim, and watch the shine of your hair significantly improve.[1]

Treating with Products

1
Use aloe vera. Use aloe directly from a plant or find 100% bottled aloe vera. Apply the gel to your hair, massaging it in around the roots and working towards the tips. Let this sit in your hair for two hours or more, and then rinse it out. Follow this with a regular hair wash using shampoo and conditioner.

2
Soak your hair in oil at night. Before you go to bed at night, give your hair a coating of olive oil and wrap it in a shower cap and bandana. Massage the oil into the roots of your hair all the way to the ends. Sleep with your hair wrapped in the olive oil mask, and then rinse out with shampoo in the morning.[2]

3
Do a hot oil treatment. Heat four tablespoons of coconut, olive, almond, or castor oil in a pan until it is warm to the touch (not hot). Pour this warm oil into your hair, and use your fingers to massage it into the roots and scalp. When all your strands have been coated with the warm oil, put a shower cap over the top and then wrap the outside of the shower cap with a hot towel. The heat from the oil and the towel will open the pores in your scalp, allowing the oil to soak in and work wonders on your hair.

4
Use avocados and banana. Mash one whole avocado and one banana together to form a paste. Massage the paste into your hair, making sure to cover all of your strands. Allow the mask to set for an hour, and then rinse out. The combination of avocado and banana work to soften split ends and add elasticity to your locks.

5
Try a mayonnaise mask. Mayonnaise is made of emulsified eggs and oil, and works by supplementing your hair with the oils it needs to be shiny and full. Completely coat your hair in mayonnaise and leave it for thirty minutes. Use full-fat mayonnaise for the best results. Once the mayo has soaked into your hair, rinse it out with warm water followed by a regular wash of shampoo and conditioner.

6
Give yourself a gelatin mask. To restore protein to your hair, mix one tablespoon of gelatin (unflavored) and one tablespoon of warm water and coat your hair. Let the mixture sit on your hair for ten minutes, and then rinse out. Follow this by using your regular shampoo and conditioner regimen.

7
Condition your hair with apple cider vinegar. Combine ½ a cup of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of warm water. Spritz it into your hair after you wash it, and allow it to sit for ten minutes. Then, rinse again, but without shampoo. This works to add shine and reduce dandruff, a win-win!

8
Spritz your hair with beer. Beer? Oh yes, beer. It works wonders in adding shine and body to your hair because of its high vitamin B contents. Pour beer (any kind) into a spray bottle, and after you finish showering spritz it into your hair. If you use a blow drier, the smell of the beer will dissipate with the heat.

9
Soften your hair with eggs. Combine three whole eggs with 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of honey. Beat the mixture until it is well mixed, and then apply it to all of your hair. Let this sit on your hair under a shower cap for thirty minutes, then rinse. Use shampoo and conditioner to completely remove all traces of the egg.[3]

10
Use a hibiscus mask. Blend the leaves of a hibiscus plant in a food processor until it forms a paste. Apply this to your hair, focusing on the scalp and roots. Let it set for thirty minutes, then rinse out with warm water and shampoo.
11
Try boiled apples. Boil 1-2 apples (depending on the length of your hair) until they are soft. Remove from the water and blend into a thick paste. Allow the applesauce to cool slightly, but while it is still warm apply it to your hair. Leave it for thirty minutes and then rinse with shampoo and conditioner."
