Nine
Maggie woke up noticing that she wasn't lying on a stretcher anymore but on a much more comfortable bed. She looked around but she wasn't in the hospital. She was in someone else's room. Huge curtains covered the windows and there in the corner was a small fridge. Aside from those things, there weren't things inside. She looked at herself and saw that her wound was somehow taken care of. Someone treated her wound and bandaged it and she was wearing different clothe now.
It made her think that all she saw wasn't a dream. It was all true. She hoped it was some kind of a nightmare but it wasn't. She looked around to look for Jerry but he wasn't there.
"Jer?" She called out. No one answered. She got out of bed and went to look outside. She went to open the door and the bright daylight appeared before her. She tried to close her eyes and avoid the blinding light. She turned to a different direction and saw the man she was looking for. He was talking to a guy and he wasn't in his tuxedos anymore but in his comfortable winter clothes. She walked his way and tried to approach him but someone blocked her way.
"Hey!" A girl with blue eyes appeared before her. She has beautiful fair complexion which perfectly matched her beautiful long ebony black hair. She looked cheerful despite the chaos that's happening.
"I'm Carol, one of the paramedics who assisted you last night. You're up?" She asked and stared at Maggie from head to toe. Maggie studied the girl in front of her. She gave her a questionable look.
"You seem to regain your strength fast." Carol added. "And oh, by the way, the bullet inside your shoulder was impossible to remove. You really need to undergo a surgery for the bullet to be removed from your body."
"Okay." Maggie nodded and left Carol behind. She walked pass her and went to Jerry.
"Hey." Carol called out but Maggie did not listen. Carol just shuddered in disappointment. Maggie finally reached Jerry and called him out. "Jer." Jerry turned her way and his expression changed, from a serious to an enlightened one.
"Maggie." Maggie gave him a hugged in front of the officer Jerry was talking to. Jerry kept on patting Maggie's back while embracing her. Maggie turned to realized that there was someone watching them. Then, finally, she got back to her senses. She stepped away from Jerry leaving a distance between them.
"I'm sorry, sir." Maggie muttered.
"You're up. You must have gained enough strength to see that you've already managed to approach this man here with a hug." Maggie blushed upon hearing the officer state what she did, which was really embarrassing.
"My apologies, Officer Brown." Jerry said. "She's been exhausted about all the fuss that has been happening. She really needed it." Jerry managed to kid around.
Maggie got so embarrassed and elbowed Jerry. Jerry seemed to notice and smiled mockingly at Maggie. "Please, excuse us, Officer Brown."
Maggie pulled Jerry away from the officer. "Jer, where exactly are we? Is this camp?" Maggie asked. Jerry shook his head in disagreement.
"We haven't reached camp yet because they needed to rest for a while. Were still on our way to camp but we're a lot nearer to camp than you imagine."
"Then why did we stop?"
"One of the patrol cars broke down. They've got no choice but to repair the automobile rather than leave the other officers here." Maggie nodded upon hearing Jerry's explanation. She looked around and saw a small sign near the rooms which were lined up in a row.
