Fifteen
The dinner went on smoothly. Maggie was stunned the whole time that she wasn't able to eat so much. She kept on glancing at the woman beside her. She was positive it was her mom. She saw her face from the pictures her dad showed her and she was a hundred percent sure that it was her.
"Bring in the desserts." A man called out. Then suddenly, a line of waiters with trays on their hands walked inside the dining Hall. Maggie's mom was just smiling at the officials without saying a word. Maggie was the earnest person in the group to hear her mom's voice for the first time. Her mom looked very proper and poised. She was and intimidating person.
Sally (Maggie's mom) picked up a bell near her and rang it. All the officials stared at her even Bryce suddenly looked at her. Sally stood up and showed everyone her smile. "Before the tasting of desserts shall officially start, may I speak a few word."
The officials nodded and prepared themselves for hearing the lady out. "I would like to introduce to you someone, whom I very treasure the most." Bryce's face enlightened and smiled. He prepared himself to stand and waited for Sally to continue.
"I would like you all to meet, my lovely daughter,..." Everyone in the dining hall was surprised to hear Sally talk. Even Bryce's face was painted with confusion. They didn't know that she had a daughter.
"Maggie James." Eleven pair of intimidating eyes stared at Maggie. Maggie was so stunned to hear her mother out. She didn't know that her mom would acknowledge her first. Sally clapped her hands gracefully which made the other officials follow her. Sally looked at Maggie and held her hand as she assisted her to stand. Bryce on the other seat was also surprised to see Sally holding her and acknowledging Maggie as her daughter. Sally went near to Maggie and gave her a warm hug.
"I missed you so much, darling."
Maggie heard her mom whisper. Her voice were cracking as if she was about to cry. Maggie slowly pulled away from her mom and studied her mom's face. She was right, it was her mom.
After all this years, she thought her mom was dead and she won't be able to feel a mother's love and affection. She knew that this day would come, but she never knew it would be this time when the world is in chaos. It is true that even in the darkest pit of darkness. There is a small pint of light to guide you in the dark.
"I missed you too, mom."
Sally smiled at her daughter and faced everyone. The officials gladly clapped their hands as they celebrated the union of a mother and a daughter. One of the officials raised his champagne glass.
"To Maggie James,"
"To Maggie James," Everyone replied in chorus. They also raised their glasses and toasted for her honor. The tasting of desserts officially started. The officials were busy indulging themselves in the sweetness of the different kinds of desserts from different countries. Maggie was happy with her mother that she almost forgot about Jerry.
"Mom, do you remember Jerry?" She asked her.
"Jerry?" Her mom asked.
"Oh, I guess you don't know him. Well, he's my childhood friend, and he's actually here but he's locked up. Bryce locked him up, could you----" Maggie wasn't able to finish talking because Bryce suddenly stood up.
"The tasting of desserts has now officially ended. Let us proceed to the important matters that we are here for tonight." Maggie's mom shifted her gaze towards Bryce. He just bowed before her then he signaled someone to do something for him. The man he called out left him after he instructed him. Bryce returned his attention to everyone and looked at Sally.
