"Can I ask you something?", I ask as we pull into the school.

"Anything, babe."

Something has been rattling in my mind since the moment I woke up this morning. I know this isn't really the time or place, but honestly how much longer can I put off something like this?

"Have you ever liked anyone as much as you've liked me?"

Stiles freezes, my question striking some kind of nerve. We sit in silence, parked in his parking spot as I await my answer. His eyes seem to be contemplating something; fighting an internal battle of wether or not to give my answer or not.

"Why would you want to know something like that?", he finally speaks.

"I don't know. I was just wondering."

I know. I know exactly why I would as a question like that. Emily. This Emily person hasn't left my mind since the minute I heard of her. I don't want to seem like the nosey girlfriend trying to pry into my boyfriends past that he seems to want to keep locked and away, but I just know this is something I need to know, I can feel it. I might have not talked to him about it last night, but it's something that definitely has not escaped my mind.

I wonder what she was like. Was she prettier than me? Was she smart? What made her so special that it creates such a divergent between Stiles and Isaac? Emily. Emily.

"Come on, we need to get inside. Looks like rains about to come down.", Stiles says as he slips out of the car and out from answering my question.

I quickly climb out and hastily walk beside him. He slips his arm around me and we briskly walk into the school, tiny little droplets sprinkling on our heads just as we make it into the door.

"Vanessa!", a voice calls me from behind. I turn to see Megan and some of the other girls from the lacrosse team walking towards us. I watch as most of them ogle Stiles and practically trip over their own feet once they reach us as they whisper back and forth to each other.

"Hey, girl.", Megan says while staring at Stiles' arm around me.

"Hi, Megan. What's going on?" I really don't feel like along any kind of conversation, but being rude in a new school is no way to make friends.

"Oh, well me and the girls were just wondering if you wanted to go off-campus with us during lunch. We're getting Canes."

Wow. It's only my second day and I'm already being invited to lunch? "Oh, that sounds nice, but-"

"Sorry ladies, she'll be spending lunch with me.", Stiles interjects with a smile.

The girls seem to visibly suck in sharp breaths at the sound of Stiles' voice. I have to bite down on my tongue to keep from laughing at them. I knew Stiles had a major effect on me, but little did I know the effect he has on the entire female population.

"Oh, w-well I-I guess we'll s-s-see you later, V-Vanessa.", Megan stutters as she tries look anywhere but towards us.

"Hey, maybe we can reschedule? Tomorrow?" I almost feel bad for blowing them off like this.

"Ya, tomorrow sounds great." She gives me a small that eases my tampered heart. She's a really nice girl. I mean, I've known her a day and she seems to be growing in me.

"Your names Megan right?", Stiles asks.

Megan almost looks like she's going to pass out again from Stiles direct words towards her. If I'm not mistaken, I can actually see a bead of sweat starting to form on her forehead and her clammy palms.

"Umm...yeah, I am.", she shakily says.

"Ya, I knew I knew that name. You're captain of the girls lacrosse team right?"

"Umm yeah. It's nice to meet you." She looks like a tiny little three year old getting tormented by a group of teenagers.

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Stiles by the way." He extends his hand out and quickly grabs hers, vigorously shaking it and finally letting go.

Megan stares down at her hand as of a celebrity or God himself had just touched her; the other girls staring right with her.

"Hey, I just remembered, there's supposed to be a party this weekend. It's kinda something the boys lacrosse team throws every year on the first week of school. You guys should come."

Every single one of their jaws literally drop and shatter to the ground.

"You're joking! You're actually inviting us to the back-to-school lacrosse bash?!", one of the girls, I think her name is Michelle, screeches.

"That's literally one of the biggest parties of the year!", another one, Kelly maybe, exclaims.

"Well anyone who is my girls friend is welcomed. Plus you guys play lacrosse, so I don't see why you wouldn't come.", he shrugs.

The girls have a full out frenzy, exclaiming with joy over this party that I didn't even know about in the first. But judging from their excitement, it must be a pretty big deal to be invited and an even bigger deal that it came from Stiles.

"Oh my gosh, thank you so much!", Megan exclaims as she and the girls finally calm down.

"It's no problem. I can have Vanessa text you with the address and-"

"Stiles!" We all whip our heads to the direction of the call of Stiles voice and see Scott, Allison, Lydia, Boyd, and Erica heading towards us. By the look on their faces I know something is up, and it's not good.

"We have a problem.", Scott states once he reaches us.

"What's going on?", Stiles asks as his grip on me tightens.

"It's-", Scott starts but stop when he sees the group if girls standing there.

The awkward tension rises as the rest of the group looks at the group of girls and as the group of girls stare right back.

"Umm, we're going to go. We don't want to be late for class you know.", Megan says quickly. "We'll see you later, Vanessa." She quickly nods at the girls and they all leave in a quick departure.

"Now, what is going on?", Stiles asks again once the girls are out of sight.

"Lydia says she's been hearing things again.", Scott says.

I turn to my sister and give her a questionable look. Hearing things? What does he mean by that?

"It's been going on since I woke up this morning.", Lydia begins. "It's like this constant clicking sound. It sounds like marbles being dropped on the ground and as I got closer to school, it just kept getting louder and stronger. When I finally got into the school, the sound was deafeningly loud. Then I realized that it wasn't marbles hitting the floor, but it was a cane. Like a deaf persons cane."

Everyone visibly turns pale as she finishes. What does this even mean? And how is she hearing all this stuff? Something really bad is happening, I can feel it, but I don't know what.

"Guys!" Isaac comes running towards us, breathless with fear deep in his eyes. "We have a problem."

"What? What is it?", I ask him.

He looks at me than up to Scott, Boyd, and Erica. "Do you guys smell that?", he asks them.

They all seem to slightly lift up their noses in the air and take quick sniffs of the air. Their eyes widen and noses crinkle.

"Scott?", Stiles asks him.

"We need to get her out of here.", he states. He's talking about me. I don't even have to think twice to know he's talking about me.

"Is it-"

"Deucalion."
