I wake up the next morning to once again an empty bed. I turn over and plant my face into my pillow. I breath in a beautiful scent, Stiles minty, honeysuckle smell is heavily seeped into my pillow.
My mind reminisces in the action that happened last night. I can still feel his body pressed on mine sending me into my own pure bliss.
I look at my clock and once again almost pass out. I only have 20 minutes to get ready! Dammit Vanessa, always late. Always late! I jump out of my bed and by the time I'm completely ready, I have 7 messages from Stiles demanding I leave my house or he'll leave me.
I bound down the stairs, trying as hard I can to avoid my mother from another war battle. By the time I hit the last step, I already hear the clicking of her heels and soon she is standing right in front of me.
We stare at each other for a while, waiting for the other to say something first. Her eyes almost hurt to look at directly when I know she's still mad at me.
"I hope you are in a better and changed attitude today Vanessa.", she speaks.
"Yes, mother.", I say softly, looking at the ground.
"Good." She takes my face into her hand and lifts my face up. Her expression is softer, one that I can actually look at without feeling like I'm going to combust into ashes. "I don't know what happened yesterday to make you say all those terrible things, but you must know that that is your sister, your flesh and blood. She would never and has never done anything to hurt you, you know that."
I almost want to throw up at her words. I can practically taste the bile coming up her throat. Oh mother, my naive mother, you have to idea who the girl is that you call my sister.
"I love you, I hope you know that. I cried myself to sleep after I yelled at you like that and I hope to never do that again." She embraces me in a warm hug and I can feel my body sigh with relief at my mothers love.
"We'll talk about the rest of the later tonight ok?"I nod my head in her hair.
"Now come on.", she says as she let's me go. "Let me drive you to school. We can pick up some breakfast on the way of you want."
"Actually mom, I have a ride.", I say as I shuffle back and forth on my heels.
"Oh really?" She gives me a sly smile as she elongates her really. "Is it that boy Isaac?"
I almost face palm myself and my mom. "No mom, his name is Stiles."
"Stiles?" She gives me a distasteful look. "Who's that?"
"He's kind of the guy I like." I don't think this would be the appropriate time for me to tell my mother that I actually have my first boyfriend and didn't tell her the minute it happened. God she would hate me more than yesterday.
"The guy you like? But I thought Isaac was the-"
"Mom, he's already been waiting outside for 10 minutes. Can we please talk about this when I get home?" I'm anxious enough and a conversation about Isaac and Stiles this early in the morning is the last thing I need.
"Ok, fine. But you owe me some girl talk the minute you get home young lady. Just because your father and I are letting you drive with boys and bring them home does not mean you keep me out of the loop of your everyday life, you hear me?"
"Yes, mother." I love when we're like this. Simple mother and daughter.
"Now get going." She kisses my forehead. "You can't let that boy sit out there and burn gas."
"Well if I keep talking to you, he will." I laugh as I run out of the house."
"He better be cute Vanessa!", I hear her yell at me as I'm halfway down the driveway.
"Mother!" I can see the smile on her face as leans against the doorway.
"Is that your mom?", Stiles says as slip into his car.
"Unfortunately, now please drive away before she does something stu-" From my window, I watch as my mother walks down the steps, down the driveway, and stop directly in front of my window. Why? Why is she doing this?! How is that just a couple hours ago she was screaming and scolding me, now just a few minutes ago she was coming back to terms with me, now she's trying to embarrass me in front of my boyfriend like some attempting-to-be cool mom.
"Sweetie, I just wanted to say goodbye before you left." She is not actually doing this right now! I can practically smell the bullshit on her and I hope Stiles can too.
"Well goodbye mother." I saw as sweetly as possible.
"Oh come now, don't be bashful just because your friend is here. Give your mother a kiss." My cheeks begin to flush as I practically throw grenades at her with my eyes while a plant a quick kiss on her cheek.
"Ok mother, you can leave now."
"Oh? You're not even going to introduce me to your friend?" She gestures to Stiles. "Now I know your father and I have taught you better than that."
She's a piece of work, this woman. Christ, sometimes I forget that I was actually born from her. I give a quick introduction to the both of them and watch as they exchange quick hellos and few how do you does.
"Well, let me not keep you kids from your education. You better get going.", my mother says as she slowly backs away from the car. "Have a nice day, kids!", she says waving at us.
"Have a good day, Mrs. Martin.", Stiles gives back to her and finally peels out of my house and drives away.
We sit in a bit of silence as I get my nerves down from that horrid experience, my mind trying to process it all. I'm going to have to come clean to my mother soon about Stiles and I, I know this, but it could either end in my humiliation or happiness and I'm so scared to find out.
"Your moms really nice.", Stiles speaks breaking me out of my thoughts.
I scoff at him. "Really? Nice? Sure."
"Really? She seems really cool. Plus I can tell where you got all you looks from."He places a hand on my thigh and gives it a small squeeze. "Really."
"Well good because you're coming to properly meet her and my father tonight at dinner." The words rush out before I can even think of them. Did I honestly just say that? I did, and I think I actually meant it. I look up at Stiles and see almost all the color has been drained from his face, the sight sending me into a set of giggles.
"Really?", he whispers.
"Really."
