I couldn't stop shuddering. He was stagnant. My brother was dead. Better yet, I was the one that killed him. How the hell am I going to live with myself? My own flesh and blood was murdered by my doing. My little brother. Behind me, I heard heavy footsteps that pounded the ground like an earthquake. I turned around, Yamori was standing behind my slumped body on the floor. His hands went towards me. My vision went dark, and a deafening silence arose. Soon after, the loud sound of a door slamming shut echoed in my ears, making them ring.
My eyes suddenly opened as I awoke in my dark apartment. Slowly, I rose from the couch, yawning. It was very quiet. Excruciatingly quiet. I stood up, glancing around in case anything was in the house. I tried to be as placid as possible, walking on my tippy-toes. The living room was the same, couches neat. Well, besides the one I was just on.. And the tables and picture frames were exactly where I left them. The kitchen was the same, too. Everything was in place. My room, the bathroom, kitchen, and living room. Yet, something still felt wrong.
It was still pretty dark in my apartment, so I decided to turn on the lights. I trudged over to the light switch, moving my hand onto it. In a mere second, faster than one may bat an eye, my lights flashed on. From a once dark apartment, into a lighted room so bright you needed sunglasses. But still, it all looked the same. Everything. I still had that unsettled feeling, though.
And that's when my bedroom door abruptly slammed sealed. A loud closing echoed throughout my ears, ringing in a tune. I frowned over at the now closed door, wiggling the doorknob.
It wouldn't stir, as if it was bolted.
After trying and failing many times, I finally grew irritated. I withdrew up and propelled the door open. Screws fell out of the hinges, and the door pivoted open. Tentatively, I tip-toed to the adjoining wall of the room, harking. Silence. More silence. Until a footstep was overheard. Scarcely. My eyes progressed around the room, piercingly, making sure not to miss one single movement if any. There was rummaging through my dresser, and it stopped as I turned towards it. Same happened with my drawers, the bed, and the basket. It reflected as if tiny people were running throughout my house. As I listened once more, something in the back of my mind told me to investigate the bathroom. I slowly walked towards it. The noise began again, and I grew closer to the bathroom. Soon enough, both of my feet were inside. I surveyed every inch and opened the cabinet from which the noise was the loudest. I maneuvered the drawer open. A creature with two beady-eyes shot towards me, clinging to my shirt. Disturbed, I brushed it off. It was a chipmunk.
What the fuck.
It ran outside, into the kitchen. I followed subsequent to it, opening the door to let it out.
It raced out faster than I assumed it would. I began to close the door when a hand was caught in between the door's hinges.
