"Ciao!" I waved after the car holding my dad and Giulia. Once it was out of sight, I closed the front door and went to the living room, feeling the tension between Giorgio and Harry

"So, what are we doing for New Year's?" Harry asked me nervously as Giorgio's eyes were piercing through his soul

"Basta!" I sneered at my brother, whose head shot my way

"Well, I was thinking that I really want you to live the Italian traditions, so I'm going to cook us dinner..." I said

"And you are going to be eating with us, I'm not giving you a choice" I told Giorgio "Anyway, the dinner is going to contain the usual stuff for New Year's. Then we are going to fire up the Christmas log, at midnight we're all throwing away something old before watching the fireworks. After that we'll drink some prosecco with our neighbors and exchange sweets and then we can go out and our separate ways"

"We're gonna do all that?" Giorgio whined

"If you agree" I said, but what I really cared about was if Harry agreed

"It sounds perfect to me" Harry smiled

"I wanted to-"

"Go find some girls to fυck, I know" I finished Giorgio's sentence "But because you don't see your baby sister as much, this year you are going women-hunting a bit later to spend time with her, am I right?"

"Yes. Yes, exactly" Giorgio muttered

"And what are we doing today?" Harry questioned

"I thought we should go to my mum" I answered

"Do I have to come there too?" Giorgio asked in a sickeningly sweet voice

"Only if you want to" I said through gritted teeth

"When you're around? No, thanks, I'll pass" My brother laughed

"How surprising" I muttered sarcastically. Giorgio had never really had my back, even though he knew my relationship with my mum wasn't exactly what you call smooth. He had always been really close to her whereas I grew further apart from her as I grew older; especially after the divorce I had taken quite some distance from both my father as my mother, the difference between the two parents being that my dad understood it and slowly let me grow closer to him again, while my mum was desperate to have me closer again, only pushing me further away in the process.

I really was daddy's little girl. I had always been. I resembled him in almost every way, which was a huge frustration for my mum. My parents had believed that opposites really did attract when they were younger, but realized later that it didn't work that way, teaching me a life lesson. Opposites absolutely did not attract long term and since I was daddy's little girl, I was pretty much my mum's opposite. And that showed in our relationship

"Why wouldn't he want to be around when you are with you mum?" Harry asked, shaking me out of my thoughts

"Because he is a non-supportive dιck" I muttered under my breath, taking a seat next to him

"How so?" Harry asked

"My mum and I don't have the best relationship" I stated awkwardly

"I know, you've told me" Harry smiled reassuringly

"Well, whereas I'm my mum's opposite, Giorgio is mum's clone, so they get along really well" I explained

"So when you and your mum argue..." Harry trailed off

"Giorgio just stands there like a sack of potatoes" I said

"We're going to be fine at your mum's without Giorgio, don't worry" Harry said encouragingly, draping his arm over my shoulders and kissing my temple as he pulled me close
