Melina's P.O.V.
My eyelids dropped as I rubbed my forehead, patiently waiting for my coffee. I had a terrible lack of sleep and the fact that my midterms were coming closer and closer was not helping my case
"Ma-lina?" the girl behind the counter announced, uncertainty clear in her voice
"Yup, that's me" I flash an exhausted smile "Could you put a carton around the cup?"
"Oh, yeah, sure" she quickly grabbed a carton, but I didn't miss the sneaky glances she was giving me "Aren't you...?"
"I think I am" the corners of my mouth tugged up as I took the cup from her hands
"That is so cool" the girl gushed excitedly "Can I get a picture?"
"I'm pretty sure I look like a raccoon that smoked a stash of pot, but if you really want to" I said, holding up my cup of coffee so the name was visible while putting on a pretty forced smile. The girl giggled as she pulled out her phone and within seconds she had snapped the picture
"Thank you so much"
"No problem. It's the least I can do for a coffee" I replied, smiling one last time before turning around to walk out of the shop. I shivered as I stepped outside, the cold wind hitting me right in the face. I brought the cup to my lips, savouring the warm liquid despite it completely burning my throat. Determined I continued my pace on the crowded pavement until -of course- I bumped shoulders with someone
"Oh, I'm so sorry" I apologised as I bent down to grab the person's stuff
"It's alright, it's pretty crowded here anyway" a familiar voice triggered my attention
"Dani?"
"Melina" she replied in surprise, offering me a big smile
"Where have you been?" I smiled, handing her her stuff "You've gotten famous, woman!"
Danielle's chuckle filled the air, her eyes squeezing together
"Last time was when we went shopping with El and your roommate..."
"Natalie" I reminded her
"I knew it started with an N" Dani exclaimed, a smile gracing her lips
"That's what they all say" I joked "Got any time to catch up?"
"Yeah, I would love to!" Danielle gushed and together we headed back to where I had come from. We entered Starbucks, standing in line so Dani could order a coffee herself. After seeing the girl behind the counter nearly have a heart attack (judging from how her eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets after noticing us), we took a seat at a table
"I'm pretty surprised you actually drink Starbucks as an Italian" Danielle laughed
"Yeah, I mean, it can't really be called a decent coffee, but it will do" I said as studied my cup "Why do you drink Starbucks?"
"El's fault" she answered, taking a sip to cover up her shame
"She kind of rubs it off, doesn't she?" I grinned, to which Danielle nodded "You know what's funny? The only Italian word used in this shop is venti and it means twenty"
"Well, that's a pretty big fail" she said, bursting out in laughter afterwards
"So, tell me what's going on? You're famous now, I wanna know" I asked jokingly
"Oh, god, I don't know. It just happened. I suddenly got asked to do a lot of stuff, so I said yes"
"Well, that's very underwhelming" I messed with her
