Conversations in a Hospital Cafeteria

"What the hell, Ruby?" I slammed the tray down on the table. A carrot tumbled off, falling onto the ground with a slight bounce. She flinched at the loud noise, bringing her cup of tea down from her lips. I sat across from her,"You didn't think that'd be something I'd want to know?" I pointed my finger at her. She was probably just listening to what Emma had told her, but that doesn't make it hurt any less.

"Killian, if you had just listened to me, Emma would've told you."

"You can't turn around and blame this on me, Ruby!" My voice raised, and I got a few glares.

She rolled her eyes, "Stop being such an ass. I bet you that baby won't make it."

My blood boiled, "Stop being such a bitch. All you do is walk around and criticize others, even though you're a drunk that can hardly hold a job your grandmother gave you."

"And what about you? You think you can make it with that music hobby?" She spat at me. Ruby leaned across the table, so close that I worried her red lipstick would leave marks on my skin, "Do you want to know something, Killian?" Her breath was hot on my earlobe.

"I think you're at fault for Milah's death," she stood up and grabbed ahold of the trash that still sat on her tray, "Try to live with that."

I took a bite out of my egg sandwich. It's crisp at the edges, flaking and falling from the sandwich.

"Bitch?" I heard from behind me, "That's a little harsh," I heard Emma giggle from behind me. Even after being in a hospital for the past week, she's still got an amazing spirit to her. Her hair tickled at my shoulder and soft lips fell onto my neck.

I took in a breath and turned my head. A bright smile met me, "What'd she say?" Emma asked, taking a seat next to me. She grabbed a tater tot from my plate, popping it into her mouth with a satisfied sigh.

"I think we need to talk... Swan," I turned to face her. She's doing so much better. Her eyes are getting that gorgeous glimmer back to them, and she looks like she has so much more life in her. I worry is I say this, if I talk about this situation, she'll back track. She won't know what to do.

"There's something I've actually wanted to talk to you about." I got myself ready for what she was about to say. I'll tell her not to worry and that we can work this out together. That she's not alone, and she never will be. Her gorgeous green eyes scanned my body ever so slowly, but she didn't say anything.

"They said I was almost dead," she whispered, and darted her eyes to the floor, "That I had lost so much blood, I could've been dead within hours."

I sucked in a breath, letting out shaky and in waves, "You're okay now, Swan." Besides the fact that you're pregnant, and apparently hiding it from me. But at least your alive. I should be more thankful for her sitting next to me. But I still want to know. I want to know what's going on with the little child she has in her. Apparently the baby's the size of a lemon, and Emma could be showing, but she's only wearing bulky clothes so I can't tell.

"It's just... scary," Emma rested her head on my shoulder like she's done so many times before.

I nodded, wrapping my arm around her shoulder, "You start therapy next week, my love." Then she'll be at week fourteen in her pregnancy. I wonder if I'll know by next week.

"Can I ask you one more thing, Killian?"

"Of course, Swan."

"This is going to sound... horrible," she shuttered and avoided making eye contact, "But, you didn't ever do anything... bad... to Milah, did you?" She pushed her blonde hair into her face, seeming ashamed of the question.

It's not an unreasonable question after what she just went through, "Emma, I never... I would never... do that to you."

She didn't like my answer, "But did you do it to her?" She crossed her arms and sat them on the edge of the table, this time making eye contact with me.

I tried to recall every argument with Milah. Had I ever grabbed her wrist to get her attention or said something nasty to her? No, I didn't.

"I promise you, Emma, I never did anything to her. To anyone," this time, I reached for her hand. She slipped it out from under her arm, connecting the two us. I wish someone could come and sow our hands together.

Emma nodded, "I'm sorry that I asked that," she whispered. What she doesn't realise is no matter what she does, I'll always love her. I need to tell her. I need to honestly hear from her.

"Emma... I know you're pregnant."
She nodded slowly, and carefully took my hand, "I didn't tell you on purpose, Killian," Emma told me.

I tilted my head slightly. Why would she not ever tell me? What the bloody hell could that possibly mean? "I have an abortion scheduled for next week, Killian. I don't think we're... ready for another baby. You... we... already have Evelyn."

"You don't want to have my baby..." I whisper. I know, it's her body. But it's my baby, too. Shouldn't I have a say in that? Shouldn't I have a say in whether we go through with this or not?

"No, Killian," Emma kissed my cheek, "Just not right now."

I fixed her hair behind her ears. "Okay," I forced out. I lied. Because I'm not okay with this, but I have to be okay with what Emma wants. She needs to take care of herself right now, not me. If this will help her, then it's okay. It can be okay. Right? It has to be. We have to be okay.

OKAY BEFORE YOU WRITE SOMETHING ABOUT ME BEING ANTICHOICE AND WHATEVER:
that is NOT what I'm saying here. Those are Killian's opinions, not my personal ones. AND I'm not saying Killian doesn't think this is Emma's body and her decision (because we all know how much he loves and respects Emma), he's just a lil sensitive cutie and yeah it's Killian.
