Surprises

"I'm taking you somewhere tonight, you should wrap up," Pete had told Patrick earlier in the day.

"Where?" Patrick asked, because he really liked to know what kind of situation he would be in before he planned an outfit.

"I'm not telling you that, that'd spoil the surprise!" Pete had laughed at his boyfriend's inquisitive nature.

After he had deemed them both suitably dressed, the pair had got into Pete's car and he had set off, humming along to whatever came on the radio he always left turned to a low volume. The pair sat in silence for most of the time, just comfortable in each other's presence, and also allowing Pete to focus on the roads ahead.

Pete drove for hours, it was nearing midnight when Patrick realised they hadn't passed any sign of civilisation in the best part of an hour. If he were with any other person than Pete, this was where he'd worry that they were going to murder him and hide the body, but he assumed there was some kind of method in Pete's madness. There usually was.

Pete came to a stop abruptly, looking around like he knew where he was even though it was pitch black.

"Stay there for like, one second," Pete told him, before getting out of the car and getting something out of the boot.

A couple of minutes later, Pete opened Patrick's door for him, like the gentleman he is, and he got out. Pete held a torch in one hand, Patrick's hand in the other, and lead him over to the blanket he had set out on the floor.

"Lie down," Pete instructed, and Patrick did as he was told without much thought as Pete turned the torch off. It was only once he'd laid down and happened to glance up at the sky that he finally realised what Pete had planned. The stars above their heads were the brightest he'd seen in years, having spent most of his time in cities. Patrick let out a gasp of appreciation.

"You brought me stargazing..."

"I said I would," Pete smirked, enjoying the awestruck look on Patrick's face. He deserved to be treated like the angel he was, and Pete loved how surprised he was by his little plan.

"But I didn't think... I didn't think you actually meant it," Patrick whispered, looking over the constellations above their heads. A moment of calm silence fell over the two as they basked in nature's beauty.

"I love you," Patrick told him sincerely, tearing his gaze away from the sky to look at the other man lying beside him. His eyes were starting to adjust to the dark, and he could make out his boyfriend's face smiling at him.

"I love you to the stars and back," Pete told him, pressing a quick kiss to his forehead.

"Now that's too cheesy," Patrick rolled his eyes, even though he kind of did love Pete's sappy romantic side.

"It's too late now, this whole date is cheesy as anything,"

Pete wrapped his arms around his love, pulling him into his side as they laid there watching the tiny pin pricks of light above them.

"I don't know shit about constellations, but if you join up that star," Pete pointed up where he meant, "To that one and those ones, it totally looks like a heart,"

"Bullshit, Wentz, it looks like a collection of random scribbles, but I love you for trying," laughed Patrick, nuzzling further into Pete.

"Hey, I'm trying here!"

Patrick moved back a little to get a good look at his partner as he gazed intently at the sky. The faint glow of the night illuminated his features delicately, and managed to make him appear quite ethereal.

"I was totally right," Patrick thought aloud, causing the subject of his observations to look at him a little puzzled. "You look even cuter than I remembered under the stars,"

They met in the middle for a sweet kiss that inevitably lingered on into something more passionate. By the time Patrick was straddling Pete's waist, pressing kisses to whatever inch of skin he could access, the stars had been almost forgotten, still patiently providing their glow for the two lovers.
