Chapter 11
Zara sighed in frustration as her call was sent to voicemail. "Fuck," she swears under her breath throwing herself backwards onto her bed.
Please talk to me baby. I miss you so much. :(
Zara texts Melanie for the hundredth time today. Literally. She had been blowing up her phone with calls and messages all day and night. She was almost tempted to go past her house and get on her knees.
That's how much she missed her baby.
Her heart has been throbbing all day. Whenever she begins think about the turn of events that took place three days ago her eyes burn and brim with tears, turning her vision blurry. A huge lump forms in her throat almost suffocating her. She only left her apartment twice today and she always kept her eyes down as she moped around. Her morning run hadn't blown any steam, and she skipped writing at the café.
She tried calling Melanie again and it went straight to voicemail. No dial tone, so you know what that means.
Blocked. Zara sniffed as tears spilled out her eyelids. She needed to do something; this is not how she imagined her relationship with this goddess to go. She knew Melanie was going to be special to her the first day she did a double take at her. The way she felt about Melanie are feelings she's never had for anyone else. She's never even cried over a girl in an emotionally destructive way.
Only Melanie.
The sound of her phone ringing broke her thoughts. She instantly answered it.
"He—
"Oh finally sweetheart you answered!"
Zara let her shoulders sag at the sound of her mother's voice. "Oh, hey mom."
"Oh, why the dull greeting? Is everything alright?"
"Yeah everything's okay."
"Good! I need help making a whole lot of cookies for the church by 3 so I'm going to need an extra pair of hands. Get over here and help your mother."
"Is dad there?"
"Lucky you, he is not! He's at the church handling some things so please hurry!" Her mother ended the call before Zara could respond back. She stood up and wiped her face. Her journey to Melanie would have to wait until later.
"Hey mom," Zara mumbled giving her mother a side hug. "Baby, you look like the world just took a giant crap on you."
"Thanks," Zara mumbled back.
Her mother dragged her into the kitchen and told Zara to wash her hands. '
"Something happened with you and that pretty little brown girl didn't it?"
Bingo.
Zara just squint her eyes over at her mother. "You are my child Zara, it's not that hard to tell when something's wrong."
Zara just swallowed the lump her in throat not knowing what to say to her mother. She hardly wanted to talk about Melanie at the moment, she was too afraid to bust out crying. She began shaping the cookie dough until her mother yelled for her to stop.
"What is it mom? I thought you wanted me to help make cookies?!"
"I do, but I also want them to taste good! If you make these cookies with sadness then they won't be that delightful to enjoy!"
"Well I can't just make myself happy, she broke up with me!"
