The issue of being an army lesbian

Before the memories....

After Autumn and I went through the night and she feel asleep. I took a shower and got ready to go to Mikey's so I shot him a text,

"Hey man leavin the house in 10. Be up I ain't waking your ass up!"

"My ass is up nigga! I got beer and shit! It will be like old times!" He replied

"Aight man. See ya soon."

I snuck back into the room and grabbed my phone and the little black box and immediately pocketed the ring just incase she was to wake up. I searched for Autumns keys and a piece of paper.

I wrote her a note telling her i had taken her car to go to Mikey's, the note read,

Hey babe,

I have your car, Mikey called and needed me, I'll explain why when I get home. I love you babe. I have my phone so call or text if you need me. -DJ

I grabbed her keys and laid the note on my side of the bed and kissed her forehead and slid out the door. As I made my way down the stairs Kristi was still up sitting at the table drinking some wine, so I went and talked to her.

"Ummm Ms. Kristi can I talk to you?" I asked

"Of course sweetheart what's going on? What did Autumn do?" She replied

I kinda laughed "Autumn didn't do anything,' I reassured her 'it's something I'm planning to do but I probably need to tell you the story first.'

"Well I'm listening sweetie." She said as she took a drink of wine.

"As you know me and Autumn are in a relationship."

"Mmmhmm" she nodded

"Well Autumn doesn't know yet but I got a letter in the mail today that talked about early deployment, I can't get out if it. I leave May 3 which is Saturday. Since she and I are both seniors, and as much as I care for her, I can't leave her here,' I paused and pulled the ring box out my pocket.' I want your blessing to marry your daughter. She will be able to continue high school and graduate at the base. I can't live with out her Kristi, she is my rock."

"that's enough sweetheart." She said placing her hand on my hand that held the ring." When are you planning on asking her?" She said taking the box.

"Well that's where I'm headed, my best friend is going to help me figure it out and everything."

"Well since your going to our family reunion, I believe that you should do it then, in front of the family. With a ring this gorgeous, I wouldn't want it any other way!" She said with a smile.

"I'll talk to Mikey and see what he thinks about it. So does this mean I have you blessing?"

"As long as Asher is okay with it and you treat Autumn well, You have my blessing, I'll gladly welcome you into our family."

"Thank you so much!" I exclaimed hugging her!

"Now go talk to Mikey, I'll leave the door open." She said hugging me back.

I grabbed the ring and started to leave when she called out to me,

"Hey DJ!"

"Yes, Ms. Kristi?"

"I love you, and call me momma." She said smiling.

"Really?" I asked

"Of course, if Autumn loves you, I don't see why I shouldn't."

"I love you too momma, I'll be home soon." I replied with a smile.

"Be careful."

I got in the car rolled down the windows and headed towards Mikey's, I picked up my phone and called him to let him know,

"Hey bruh. I left the house later than expected, I asked Kristi for her blessing."

"It's alright man! How did that go?" He asked.

"Went really well, I just have to ask Asher if he is okay with it in the mornin."

"Isn't Asher her little brother?"

"Yeah why?" I asked

"Does it not bother you that you have to ask a kid for his blessing to marry his sister?"

"No because Autumn and Ash are really closer kinda like me and you in a way, I'll explain more when I get there but I have to put gas in her car so it may be a little bit."

"Aight man, door is open, I'm in the man cave. See ya in a few" He said hanging up.

After i got off the phone with Mikey I thought about how Kristi had told me to call her momma and how she said she loved me. I hadn't had a mother figure in my life since I was 10, even before then I never really had a mother, she was too consumed in drugs and alcohol. The way she hugged me and told me she loved me, made me feel like I had found the place I belonged, like I might actually have a family.... Like I might have the courage to start one of my own soon.

I started to tear up so I turned the music up louder as I drove I started thinking of sweet ways to ask her to marry me. As I turned on to Mikey's road, all the memories of my wreck with my parents came flooding back into my mind..... Maybe coming out here was a bad idea....
