Okay so here over the past 3 days I've been like hella sick and not getting much sleep. Last night (as in the time I'm writing this) I got maybe 2 hours of sleep and I had a pretty wild dream that included me and this guy from my English class. Here I'm taking my dream and altering it a little bit but still keeping it as close to the dream as possible. I'm also changing names in case somebody who knows him and happen to read this.
"Okay, Virginia, you go on with Callie then you go to Mary. Got it?" Mrs. Bradshaw told me. I nodded and fixed my microphone around my ear. I wasn't going to lie, I was nervous as hell. My entire school was relying on me to win this speech competition. I wanted to impress my friends and family. I gave myself one more look in the mirror. I had on a flowy, knee-length, dress with black flats. My hair fell in loose curls around my shoulders.
With one last huff I walked out of the dressing room to back stage. "Whoa, Vi, is that really you under there?" A familiar voice asked. I turned around to see my best friend, Oliver, smirking at me. "Who else would I be?" I chuckled. Oliver came over to me and gave me a hug, "Are you nervous?" "Me, noivace? Neva!" I feigned offense. Oliver laughed at me, "You watch Newsies to much." He lightly hit my arm. "You can never watch Newsies to much." I said sternly. Just then a woman wearing a headset walked in saying I needed to head to the stage. I gave Oliver one last hug and our two finger salute and fallowed the lady.
Within seconds I was sat in a chair on a stage with a bunch of other girls facing a huge crowd of people in the auditorium. I took a deep breathe and watched the first to girls go. After a few minutes Callie went up with a girl and they did their speech on education. Next Callie walked up to me and led our speech on recycling. Now it was my turn to lead Mary and I's speech on animal abuse. "This is Mary," I introduced the smaller brunette girl, "Tonight we will be talking about animal abuse." I said calmly, ignoring the slight talking in the crowd. I began talking even louder and my voice faltered.
"Excuse me, would you please quiet down." I asked kindly but the crowd only got louder. Some even got up and left. I started to panic, "Please, settle down!" A woman in her late 40's came to the stage and silenced the crowd, "How about we take a break, yeah?" The woman led me back stage along with the other girls and pulled me aside, "I'm sorry dearie, but I'm afraid you wont be allowed to finish your speech." My jaw dropped, "What? Why not?" I asked. "We don't have enough time, you will be judged by your previous speech but I doubt you will place very highly dear." she said solemnly.
"Okay, well thank you anyway miss." I said quietly and walked away. Once I was out of sight I made a run for it. I ran down several hallways till I found a small alcove to collapse in. Tears streamed from my eyes and my body shook. I clasped my hand over my mouth to muffle my sobs. 'God, I'm such and embarrassment.' I told myself. I heard footsteps and I tried to quiet myself down before somebody heard me.
"Vi?" I heard Oliver's voice. "Virginia?" I heard another voice. Dread filled my stomach, 'Oh no.' Oliver appeared in front of me along side Carter. The boys instantly dropped down to my side. "Vi, are you okay? We saw what happened." Oliver said and rubbed my hand. "Yeah, I'm fine." I sniffled and smiled at both of them. Carter gave me a soft smile and placed a hand on the small of my back. "Virginia, what happened isn't your fault. I'm so sorry you had to go through that." Carter said.
I wiped under my eyes and sighed, "Thank God for water proof makeup, Why don't we head back?" The boys nodded and helped me to my feet. I fallowed them to an exit to the auditorium and we stood around and waited for the speeches to end. Oliver's phone started to ring after a while and he had to leave for a few minutes. Carter and I kept conversation for a few minutes. "Are you really okay?" he asked. I sighed and lent my head back on the marble pillar, "No." I scoffed. "No I'm not okay, I embarrassed the school, my family, the team, myself." I trailed off. "Hey." he took my hand in his. "Hey, you didn't, they embarrassed themselves. Besides, you were to good for them anyways." He gave me a side smile and I squeezed his hand.
"Let me see you smile." he chuckled. I shook my head, "Let me see you smile." he repeated. I shook my head again. "Fine then I guess I will have to make you smile myself." he chuckled and started tickling my sides. I squirmed away from him as fast as I could. "No! No stop it!" I laughed and pushed him away. I ran to the wall, Carter fallowed me and began tickling me again, I pushed him away but my bracelet scratched his neck. He flinched and held the spot. "Oh my goodness! I am so sorry!" I exclaimed, "Let me see," I pulled his hand away from his neck. It was just a light scratch with no blood. "I'm so sorry." I said. Carter chuckled, "No, it's just a scratch." Our face were incredibly close now and his breathe fanned my face.
My eyes drifted from his eyes to his lips then back to his eyes. "Vi," he whispered. "Yes?" I whispered back. Carter dusted his lips against mine before fully placing them on mine. He pulled me closer to him with one hand while cupping my cheek with the other. I grabbed the back of his hair lightly as our lips moved together. Carter sucked on my bottom lip lightly causing me to gasp and tighten my grip on his hair. Before things could go further I pulled away and rested my head on his shoulder. Carter chuckled and wrapped his arms around me, "I've been waiting to do that for so long."
Before I could reply the lights shut off. I sat up and looked around us, Carter grabbed my hand and stood up. People suddenly came into the lobby. I gave Carter a worried glance and texted Oliver. The crowd got louder and Carter pulled me closer to him. "Stay near me." He whispered into my ear. I nodded and called Oliver. "Where are you?" I exclaimed once he picked up. "Behind you." He answered. I let out a sigh of relief and pulled him over closer, "Where were you?" "I had to go check up on the storm that has just knocked all the power out. More than likely we will have to go to the basement if we can't board a bus to another place. I think it would be a good idea to stick together."
I nodded and bit my bottom lip. Carter squeezed my hand, I squeezed back. "So what did I miss?" Oliver motioned to Carter and I's locked hands. A blush burned my ears and cheeks and Carter stifled a chuckle. "N-nothing much,"
"Okay, people with family's board the bus's, others fallow Mr.Chaining to the basement. Everything will be okay. Just remain calm." the woman from earlier called out to everyone. "Looks like we're stuck here together."
And then I woke up. I couldn't look at the guy that I kissed in my dream the next day at school. It was really weird.
