"Marie! Come on we have to catch the metro!"
I've lived in London for 2 months so far & my first term as a student of Cambridge University is today. Mind you, I don't live on campus and neither does my flat mate, Kristina (or Kris for short.) So this our lives, waking up way too early to catch an hour-long metro ride to Uni for only 2 one-hour classes.
Always running behind, always late.
Before I head downstairs, I grab my phone & notice I had 3 text messages. I slip on some flats, put my hair into a messy bun & try to catch up with Kris, who is already out the door.
"Kris! Hey, wait up. He texted me!" She stops suddenly, turning around with a smile. "I told you he would! This is amazing Marie, you have no idea. And to think you were hesitant about giving your number out."
I admit, I was a little weary of giving my number out to a total stranger but he was different. He had this charm about him that made me curious. His smile was intoxicating ad his voice as smooth as silk. It was hard to say no to him.
"So.... what did it say?" At this point Kris & I are basically in a sprint to the metro, which leaves in about 15 minutes. "He wants to get together tonight for dinner and pudding, which is totally gross by the way."
Through all the people talking around us, I can still hear Kris grunting at the sound of my disgust towards pudding. "You still don't get it. Pudding is dessert, not that gelatinous crap you guys have over in America. If you don't like proper pudding then I don't like you."
Okay, I do get it. British people love pudding. I still find it weird how it's called that when in fact no place ever sells a snack pack! I mean, just call it dessert like everyone else!
We finally reach the metro & board, grabbing the seats all the way in the back, keeping our distance from the creepy businessmen. "Tell him you'll meet him tonight. But only if it's casual, you don't want things to e awkward in a fancy setting. Maybe grab a coffee or go to a pub? Somewhere that you can get away with wearing jeans and heels."
I text him back asking if we could meet at the pub down the street from my flat around 7pm & literally 30 seconds later he replies. "Okay, looks like I have a 'date' tonight, if you'd even consider this a date." Kris claps before putting her ear buds in.
Two months & I have a date. I couldn't even get a date back home let alone a guy’s number.
Then I come to England & I snag an interest from a guy who is way too good for me. Just looking at him made me melt, surely I didn't have the same reaction to him. He probably heard my American accent & probably wanted to be the guy that was nice to the Yank.
The weird thing was that he looked awfully familiar, like I've seen him around before. His name was even more pertinent.
Tom Hiddleston.
Anyway, Kris is excited so I guess I am too. But I'm not as excited as I am for my first class at Cambridge.
Today will be very...interesting & so far, I'm loving this life.
