Sutton

The beep of my phone has my eyes opening. At first, I'm disoriented, and the room isn't mine. My eyes scan the place before I even notice that I am laying on someone. Looking up the body, I see his eyes closed as he sleeps in a sitting position.

I can't help but grin at him as I stare at his sleeping form. I must have fallen asleep while he was playing with my hair. That is like my kryptonite. The feeling of someone playing with my hair is almost better than sex.

One of his hands runs through my hair, and when I look up at him again, this time his eyes are open.

"Sorry I fell asleep on you."

Not moving from my position, I let him continue to run his fingers through the strands of my hair.

"It's fine." His voice is full of sleep, and he's got this sexy just woke up look.

"You can lay in your bed." He grins at that but still doesn't move.

"I like having you lay on me." He twirls a strand of my hair around his finger and closes his eyes again.

Checking my phone, I see Trevor's name on the screen, and when I open the message, I cringe.

Trevor: Where the fuck are you? You fucking another guy already?

Tears prick in my eyes as I try like hell not to let his words affect me. It isn't his business what I'm doing, but I know that he won't make anything easy for me. He'll continue to think that he owns me in whatever sick way he thinks he does no matter what I do or say.

Me: It's over between us, and it doesn't matter what I'm doing or who I'm doing.

Setting my phone on the bed next to me, I look up at Rhys, and he's watching me. He doesn't say anything about the text message even though I'm sure he saw what it said.

My phone dings with another text and when I open it, I feel like I've been slapped.

Trevor: You'll never find another man like me, you stupid slut. He'll regret ever touching what's mine.

Instead of writing back, I shut my phone off, setting it next to me on the bed. When I turn onto my side so he can't see my face, he moves from his seated position and lays on the mattress next to me.

As he watches me, I can see a dozen different things flit by in his features, and each one makes me thankful that he's the one I'm with right now. We may not know each other, but somehow, he makes me feel like I'm not alone.

"He's an idiot." Those are the only words that come out of his mouth. Nothing more, and nothing less. Those three words make a world of difference in my fragile state of mine. Rhys wraps an arm around me, pulling me closer to his body and I bury my face in his chest.

I don't care that I barely met him, I need this right here, right now.

"I see you're terrified and the messages cement the fact that he is an idiot. Like I told you earlier, I'm here if you need me. I will be fucking glad to put his ass right where it belongs if he touches you." He reaches up and brushes my hair out of my eye and tucks it behind my ear.

"He won't do anything to hurt me. The words are his weapon."

The look in his eyes tells me he doesn't believe me and I don't really believe it myself. I don't know what Trevor is capable of anymore. He isn't the boy he once was, and that terrifies me almost more than his words.
