Rhys

Leaving Sutton at my place alone was the natural part. Suffering through practice was the hard part. She was on my mind the whole time, and the only thing that kept me sane was the hits I took on the field.

When coach finally called practice, it was a relief. I was that much closer to going back to my girl. My girl. I kind of like the way that sounds actually. I've never claimed a girl and I sure as hell never wanted a girlfriend either. I liked playing the field and fucking any girl that I could get in my bed after a game, but knowing that Sutton will be there in my bed every night makes me hard.

I'm looking forward to spending time getting to know her better.

"Where are you heading?" Ollie asks as he comes to a stop in front of my locker.

"To get breakfast in bed for Sutton." His eyes narrow at me, and he goes to say something, but my phone starts to ring.

"Yeah?" I answer.

"Is this Rhys Black?" The voice on the other end of the line sounds slightly robotic which puts me on edge.

"Who wants to know?" This brings Ollie's attention back to me. He looks unsure of whats happening. Instead of changing as I had planned, I take off towards the parking lot and get inside my SUV.

Ollie is in the passenger seat before the voice can say anything else.

"You have something I want. If you don't give it back, I'll make sure to ruin you." A laugh cackles in the phone and I head straight to the apartment. "She looks like a slut wearing only your shirt. A girl should have a little more class than that, don't you think?"

"If she only wants to wear my shirt, I'm all for that. But if you call her a slut again, you'll deal with me."

I put the SUV into park and run towards the front door and stop when I see that it's open.

"Don't worry; I didn't hurt her this time. This time is only a warning. If she doesn't come back to me, I'll make her life a living hell."

"Pretty sure you've already done that. Stay away from her." I hang up the phone and run into the apartment and straight for my bedroom. When I open the door, I see her in my bed, her smooth skin peeking out from under the covers and her eyes are closed.

Sitting on the bed next to her, she startles away, and when she sees it's me, a grin spreads across her lips.

"You're back."

Reaching out, I cup her cheek and press my lips to hers just as Ollie comes into my room.

"Everything looks fine out there."

Sutton pulls back from me and tries to cover herself up, but it's not much use with me sitting on the blanket.

"What do you mean, everything looks fine? What happened?" Her eye dart between the two of us and I flinch slightly. She doesn't need any more of this shit to affect her. I already know it's eating away at her and there is nothing I can do to stop it.

When neither of us says a word, she narrows her eyes at me. "Tell me what happened Rhys."

"I got a call after practice." I watch her features change instantly, and I hate that I have to tell her this. "He said he'd ruin me if I don't give you up."

Shock and fear spread across her face, and I want like hell to protect her from this bastard, I don't know what to do for it to happen.

"He said that he'd ruin you?" I nod, and she reaches out to pull me down into the bed with her. "I can't let that happen."
