Rhys
Damsels in distress seem to be the Black family weakness. First, my brother falls for Cadence and all the drama that came with her and now here I am, bringing a girl who is terrified of her ex into my apartment.
Although this isn't how I pictured my Friday night going, I can't imagine doing anything else. I've been trying to find reasons to bump into her at school or even just out on the streets around town.
Opening the door to the apartment, I motion for her to come inside before shutting the door behind me. She doesn't move from the entryway. Instead, she just stands there staring at everything.
Our place is nicer than most student apartments. My brother Mathias foots the bill because he likes to know that I'm being taken care of and I don't mind it. If it were up to my father, he would let me sleep on the streets.
He's still pissed that I didn't want to do what he wanted. He had my whole future planned out for me by the time I turned six, and I refused to conform. I can't be like them. I mean, I love my father and Mathias to fucking death, but I was not cut out for being a man in a suit day in and day out.
Plus, I don't want my parents telling me how to live my life on any given day. Mathias is already dealing with that shit and how they don't approve of Cadence. They've met her a total of one time or something and hated her immediately. They will never give an outsider a chance, and I hate that. I want to be free of them, of the control that they try to suck us into.
"This place sure beats the dorms." Her eyes are still scanning the room before coming to a stop on me.
"Yeah, my brother wanted me to live comfortably. I even have a roommate that helps cover the costs and shit." She raises an eyebrow at me in question. "Okay fine, he pays me for his room, and stuff and my brother lets me keep it for books and shit."
She hides a smile as she turns her head and starts to walk further in the living room.
"Well, you have a really awesome brother then. I mean, no one in my family could afford a place like this." She runs her hand over the entertainment center. Watching her move through my place is different. Most of the time when I bring a chick back here, they go straight to my room, and they are naked before I even shut the door.
But with Sutton, I have a feeling that everything will always be different.
Don't get me wrong, I want nothing more than to get her naked and in my bed, but I know she's only here because of the guy outside her dorm. Not because she wants to fuck me.
"So you going to tell me why you were so fucking terrified of that asshole?" She shakes her head no and continues to walk around, touching practically everything.
I try like hell not to let my inner clean freak go crazy on her for putting handprints on everything as I watch her movements. As she starts to walk down the hallway towards the bedroom, my dick takes notice, and I follow behind her like a lost puppy.
There is no artwork or anything on the plain white walls, and while trailing behind her, I feel like she might be judging me.
"It's so clean in here. Are you sure this is your place and not some chicks?" She turns to look at me over her shoulder, and I see the grin spread across her lips.
"Positive."
She opens the first door and comes into my roommate's room. Everything in his place is a disaster, and I cringe while looking at it. I hear a soft chuckle come from her before she closes the door and moves to the next one.
When she opens the door to that room, she pauses in the doorway, and I freeze. "Wow," she breathes. I come up behind her, and we are only an inch or two apart. I can feel her body heat and smell her shampoo.
