Xoina sat transfixed. She was suspended in time, not sure of what decision to take. The sounds of the night created this awkward pause between the ever-present fear that clutched fiercely at her heart and the moments of reality unfolding in panic.

She thought about how quickly her world had crumbled into dust in just mere seconds. All that she knew and loved was slipping helplessly through her dark damp shaking hands.
She quickly wiped her flowing tears, as the figure she knew quite well approached her.

His face was dark, his eyes like coals of fire, he stopped before her unmoving.

She could feel the anger rising from his body like a tsunami getting ready to lay bare the land upon impact.

The silence between them hung like a brick around her neck, she wanted to speak but she was terrified. She tried to take even breaths to try and remain calm.

She knew if she didn't she would crumble before him like a stupid schoolgirl. So she tried aimlessly to pull herself together.

" I am sorry. " she managed to whisper clutching her obviously shaking hands.

" Sorry about what, didn't you just say you were going home? Why are you here sitting alone in the dark?

Look! I am not in the mood for this so you better get yourself home, right now!" his voice bonging against her tight wheezing chest.

" I can't go home," she mumbled.

"Why is that?" he uttered sadly.

" I just can't sleep when I am home," she explained even though she knew this would only make him angry.

" Do you even realize, how you stormed out of my room! You left without my permission, only because you were angry at what I said and how I was feeling. I have work tomorrow and your behaviour is doing more evil to me than it should. Yow, if you know what's good for you, you stay quiet and just get inside and sleep." he ordered harshly.

" OK." she whimpered.

As they both walked back she started thinking of how this must look. As soon as she stepped,  in he closed the door behind her, one hand above her head and the other on the wall.

" Listen, you know you're not OK, and you go storming through the door like you're trying to prove something. I really don't appreciate your behavior. I don't so don't you dare do stuff like that again. Now, go lie down and try and get some sleep."

She walked over to the bed and sat she looked at his anger fading into concern and then into sadness.

They both knew what was causing the emotional roller coaster between them but were both helpless to fix it.

Nothing could bring back life and happiness to their empty lives, only time would tell what would happen next.  Only time could heal the pain they both felt that night and the others that would soon follow.
