•The Attack•
"Mummy!?" I yell throughout the house, trying to find her, I stumble slightly and begin to fall, but I then feel hands grab my sides, stopping my face from hitting the floor. I am turned around and lifted into the air. I begin to giggle as I see my father's face.
"Mother isn't here right now, what do you need, birthday girl?" He says with a smile on his lips, I giggle as he places me on his hip. "When are we going to eat the cake?" My father lets out a laugh. "As soon as your mother gets home."
"Where is she?" I question as he sets me down on the ground, kneeling so he is closer to my level. "She's at the daycare, she promised Linda she would help her." He says with a smile and I turn around, running off towards the door. I don't run very fast but my father still doesn't catch me.
Once I get to the door I jump for the handle, trying my hardest to reach it. I let out a growl in aggravation and my father laughs. "You look so angry, but your growl is so cute." I scrunch my eyebrows together and puff out my lip. "I'm not cute, I'm ferocious." He smiles at me before opening the door.
I smile and run out of the house, I jump off the porch and shift midair, my white and tan wolf lands on the ground, a shock of pain goes through my body at the impact and I tumble head first, rolling a few times before stopping. I lay there on my back, soon seeing a black wolf peer down at me. "Are you okay?" I hear a familiar voice and I wolf smile. "Yes Scottie," I say to my brother and he lets out a small growl. "What were you doing!?" He yells through my brain and I cower back, whimpering. His eyes soften at that and his ears go back as he sighs.
"You know I'm clumsy!" I yell at him through the link, fixing myself into a standing position. Compared to his wolf, I don't even come up to his shoulder, and his wolf isn't that big yet.
"What happened?" He says, his voice soft as it travels through my head. "I jumped off the porch..." I trail off and he releases a sigh, I know what he's thinking, even as a six year old, I knew things.
Nothing can help the fact that I am weak, I'm a runt, every pack has one, at least almost every pack. It's not very common in the werewolf world, rarely happens, especially to an Alpha's daughter.
My mother always says there is nothing to be ashamed about, and that it just means I'm special, I might be, but I know it's not in a good way. I feel a nudge at my side and I look up to meet my brothers eyes. "I know what you're thinking." I turn around and run towards the daycare, my bother easily catches up with me, barely jogging as I run with full force.
I run up to the door to the daycare and lightly scratch at it. The door opens a few seconds later and I sprint in. "Eleanor, what are you doing here?" My mother questions and I turn around as my brother walks in calmly.
I shift back and my brother comes and crouches down next to me, a few kids come up to him, stroking his dark fur.
"I wanna eat cake!" I say and laugh, causing my mother to smile. "I'm just cleaning up before I leave."
"I'll help!" I say and my mother laughs again.~~~
Thirty minuets later and we're ready to go. My mother picks me up and I struggle to get out of her grip. "I wanna shift!" I say and my mother laughs before placing me down. I run out the open door and shift, not stopping as my paws hit the ground. A wolf smile fills my features, I didn't fall-
My thoughts are cut off as my foot slips to the side and I tumble, letting out a growl of aggravation. "Sweetie..." My mother comes up next to me and I look up to her, seeing the look of pity in her eyes. I stand up and shake before sprinting off again.
Once I get into my house I shift back and run into the kitchen, where my father is sitting at the counter, looking into the living room where the TV is on, showing the image of a map with different colours over it.
"Daddy!" I yell as I run through the door and into the house, causing him to turn his attention to me. "Mum's home!" I yell and my father smiles. My mother walks in after me and my father immediately walks up to her, giving her a quick kiss on the lips.
"Hey hey hey!" My brother yells as he walks in. "Don't scald her for life please! She's so innocent!" He says covering my eyes with his hand. "Ehhhh." I groan as I try to get his hand off my face. "Cake!?" I say and they all laugh.
"Okay, okay." My mother says before grabbing the cake off the counter. I bounce up and down as she places it on the table and grabs the candles. "Its five, right?" My mother says playfully. "No! Six!" I say causing her to laugh, "Got it, six." She places the candles on the cake and begins lighting them.
"Okay lil' missy." I climb onto one of the chairs and face the cake. I take a deep breath in and-
We freeze.
A scream that sends a chill down my spine and turns my blood to ice fills the air.
My mother is the first to move. "Scott, get your sister, go to your room and do not move unless you are forced to." My brother snaps into focus and stands up, grabbing me. "Mom-"
"Go, Honey, come on." my father stands up. "No, you're not going, go with the children."
"As if,. My mother says and my father begins to speak. "We don't have the time to argue, I'm coming with you." A growl is heard before another scream, then the loud crack of a bone, close to our house. "Mom, dad, be careful, please." My brother says before turning and running upstairs. After he closes the door to his bedroom I hear the front door being slung open, then growls.
My brother grabs his desk chair and puts it to the handle, so it can't be opened easily. He peaks out the window and quickly shuts it. "Oh god..." He says, and my curious self walks over to the window and, before Scott can stop me, I look out.
I wish I hadn't.
Red, the ground is covered in liquid red. Wolves lay wounded or dead across the grounds, wolves I know, I see Linda's grey wolf, and John's white one. Though his isn't that white anymore.
Scott yanks me away from the window as tears trail down my face. I nearly jump out of my skin when a loud bang is heard on his bedroom door. A growl is heard before the door is busted down, the chair flying off somewhere, a dark grey wolf now standing atop the door.
My brother shifts just as the wolf lunges for me, Scott rams his side just before he gets me, his teeth clamping right in front of my face.
Scott is on top of him, but the wolf is so much bigger than Scott, so much stronger. It overpowers him, getting on top of him and holding him down. "Run." His voice floats through my head as the wolf strikes, biting into Scott's neck. I force myself to shift and I run out the door, I hear a growl and force myself to run faster. Its unfair, I'm weak, I'm a runt, I can't-
I run out the front door and almost stop at the scene in front of me. It's worse from down here.
I shake my head, forcing my focus away from the stench of blood and towards the treeline. I run, thinking I might be able to make it, that maybe I can actually get to the trees safely. I feel a large impact on my side and I go flying, my small frame hitting the ground hard, the pain of the impact racing through my body. A wolf approaches me, taking its time, walking slowly. It's a large white wolf, blood covers its snout and paws and splatters down it's back and sides.
Power radiates off of the wolf and fear courses through me, if I ever had a sliver of a chance of beating a wolf, it wouldn't be this one.
It's the Alpha of the Nightful pack. He strikes out at me and I quickly step back, almost losing my footing in the process. He jumps forward and I jump back, making a smug look take over his features, he's toying with me. He pounces at me and bites my back right leg, pulling. I let out a loud, long whimper as he breaks my leg, making it apparent that he decided to stop playing around.
He lunges for me and my whole body tenses, waiting for the impact and the pain, the death.
It never comes, instead, I see a large dark grey wolf lunge for him, knocking him out of the air and twisting with him. They fight and I whine. I can't lose my father, don't let me lose my father. "I love you." His voice trails through my head. A loud whimper is heard as I see a wolf stop in it's tracks. I look towards the light grey wolf as it puts its head back, letting out a mournful howl.
No.
I turn and see the wolf, the white one, leave my father's body behind. I know what will happen to my mother, she's told me about mates, about what happens when one dies.
The wolf growls at me and I cower back, taking multiple steps, fear consuming me and fogging my brain. The wolf stalks towards me, but, in my peripheral vision, I see a light grey wolf running towards me. It lunges for the white wolf, but it knew what was coming.
It was as if someone put the world into slow motion, and I catch every detail. My mother lunges for the white wolf, and it turns, somehow knowing she was coming, and steps to the side slightly, grabbing my mother's throat as she lunges past him. "Run, save yourself, we all love you." Her body slams to the ground on its side, lifeless.
I've never howled properly in my life, I've never had the reason, but at that moment, as I realize my whole family is dead, my whole pack, I sling my head back, letting out a high howl into the air.
I turn and run. I know I won't make it far, I know they will catch me, but I have to try, for my brother, for my father, for my mother. For my pack. I get into the woods and I dart between trees. Maybe I can make it. I think hopefully.
Then pain erupts on my back and my body slams into the ground.~~~
