Chapter 7
ALIYAH’S POV
“I’m going, mom and dad! See yah later!” I said to my mom and dad as I kissed them goodbye after finishing my breakfast.
“Okay sweetie. Have a nice day!” my mother said before I went out the door.
As I stepped outside our door, I was surprised to see Nick waiting on his bike in front of our house.
“Good Morning!” he greeted me.
“G-good morning.” I shyly said as I pass by him and started to walk.
“Come on, I’ll give you a ride.” He said as he continues to keep up with me with his bike which I think is kinda hard considering I was slowly walking down the road.
“No thanks” I said.
“Okay, then I’ll walk with you.” He said as he went down on his bike and walked with me while pulling his bike by his side.
“No, please. You’ll get tired walking when in fact you can ride your bike to school.”
“It’s nothing. I really want to spend some time with you if that’s okay.” He said and looked at me as if he was asking for my permission.
“Of course.” I said and I looked away which was really a bad idea since I stepped on a rock and was off balanced. Before I knew it, I was already on the ground. My god! Why of all places, of all the people I could be with, why did it have to be him? So clumsy! So clumsy! So clumsy!
“Hey are you okay?” I haven’t noticed before that he was already by my side. His bike was on the ground too and it doesn’t take a genius mind to think that he just let go of his bike to catch me but apparently did not.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” I said, as I stood up... With his help of course.
Making sure that I was fine, he then went to pick up his bike from the ground.
There was a moment of silence before he talked. “You’re still the same. Clumsy as ever.”
Hearing those words removed the awkward gap between us. “Look who’s talking. You also did not change at all. You still never catch me every time I fall.”
He laughed. I haven’t heard his masculine laugh before. When we were kids, every time he laughs, I would always tease him. Before, he would always laugh like a girl. He giggles. Yes, it’s really not good to see a man giggle I suppose.
“Remember the first time I ever played on the monkey bars on the park near our houses? You said you’d catch me at the other side. And when I finally got there, I thought you would really catch me so I let go.” I reminisced.
“But you were so heavy before that we both fell on the floor and laughed it out.”
“I am not that heavy!” I remarked.
“Yes you are.”
“No, I’m not. You’re just really wasn’t strong before.”
We both laughed for no reason. It sure is good to have your best friend back.
We continued to go back to our memories together as we reached the school. Luckily, we were both on same classes that’s why it wasn’t so hard for me to find my way through rooms cause he was there with me all the time.
We were on our way to our next class when a group of students came in our way.
JORDAN’S POV
I can’t believe I’ve talked to her without the awkwardness. I slept late last night thinking of how I could open a topic that would interest her. I was really afraid that she’ll find me boring or be too awkward to talk to.
I remembered the moment she fell to the ground. As usual, I haven’t had the time to catch her on time.
We were on our way to our next class when Mike approached us.
“Hey Taylor, who’s that chick with you?” said Mike, the school’s football jerk.
“None of your business.” I said.
He and his friends were some of the people I hate the most in school. They are the typical ‘pita’ in our school. Pain-in-the-ass. For me, everything they do are for fun and they are the food of trouble. Trouble always follow them.
I was busy fighting stares with Mike that I didn’t notice that his friends are now around Aliyah.
“Hey girl. What’s your name? You are beautiful. Want to join us? Want to have a ride?”
It didn’t take me long to pass through the people surrounding her, to take her arm, and pull her out of the crowd. Before we can leave, Mike held her other hand and pulled her to stay. It was like we were fighting over for a girl.
“Wait Taylor. I still haven’t heard the answer of Miss Beautiful here. What do you say? Want me to take you to heaven?” Mike asked as he turned towards Aliyah.
I was getting ready to fight Mike when Aliyah let go of my hand. No. Is she seriously going with Mike?
“A-“ I was on my way to telling her name when she cut me off. She looked at me as if she was telling me ‘It’s fine. I can handle this.’
“My name is Angelica. Why would I want to have a ride with you guys to hell if I am already in heaven?” she said to the group. She then turned to Mike. “As for you, how could you possibly take me to heaven if you don’t have wings and all you have are horns and a tail?”
There was a huge silence around the hallway as the students heard what she said to the popular evil football player. He was known for being evil but no one ever stood against him.
