Cameron’s POV

What just happened? She was so close! So god damned close to waking up! Now, she could die if this surgery doesn’t work. Did she hear me talking to Jason? I hope she didn’t because then, she might choose him over me. Ugh! Stop Cam! You need to focus on the real problem here, which is Mikayla. Right now I’m pacing back and forth in the waiting room, while Jason is sitting with his head in his hands, I’m too anxious to sit down. I called her family and friends, they should be here any— DING! “Cameron!”  Right on point Mrs. Wilde. “Cameron, what happened?” Then all of a sudden I burst into tears. The only people who have seen me cry were Hayden, Chase, Seth, and my father. Seth is here, he came with Jess. I’m leaning myself on the wall crying my eyes out and my big brother, the one I can always count on no matter how much shit we get into, drags me around the corner to the end of the hall and hugs me tightly, like his life depended on it. I have never felt like such a girl in my life. Seth kept asking me what happened and saying soothing things in my ear, I know he is crying too, just not as hard as I am. We stay like this for a few more minutes and then I tell him what is going on. Once I’m finished, Seth looks paralyzed. We walk back into the waiting room where everyone else is listening to the doctor tell the story. “Almost at the same time the anesthesia was wearing off, she went into neurogenic shock*. If we weren’t called when this young man did” and he points to me “she could’ve very well died.” Did he say could’ve, as in past tense? Meaning she’s alive and well! “Doctor…” I start and he says, “Yes, Mr. Wilson, she is alive.” At that moment, a rush of relief washes over me and I am now probably the happiest guy in here right now. Jason’s head is lifted up and I know that he heard the news as well. “She should be awake in a couple of hours, guaranteed.” The doctor says and walks away. I run and catch up to him, “Doctor! Thank you.”  I said. “It’s my job. When she wakes up, I expect that you will confess, yes?” Was it that obvious? I just nod my head. “Good kid, take care of yourself!” And with that he walks into his office. Man, what. A. Day.

Mikayla’s POV

What happened? Why am I here? In a hospital. But, how? There has to be a simple explanation for this. Where are my parents? I hit the help button on my bed for assistance. A nurse comes in almost immediately. “Oh, hello sweetie! I’m glad you’re awake. What do you remember?” she asks me. “Nothing, actually. I don’t know how I got here.” She looks at me with a scared look on her face. What is going on? “Um…can I see my parents?” She nods, “Sure sweetie, I’ll be back with them. Do you want your boyfriend too?” Boyfriend? Did Jason finally ask me to be his girlfriend? “Sure, why not?” a few minutes later, my parents, family, and Cameron! What’s he doing here? Where’s Jason? “Mikayla! Honey, we’ve been worried sick about you!” my mother exclaims as she hugs me tightly. “Honey, don’t strangle her, we don’t want to put her in another coma.” “Daddy!” I say and he kisses my head. “Hey, Mikayla!” Cameron speaks. “Hey, what happened to me?” He looks taken back. “Well…” Why is he acting like this? I need answers!  “Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on?!” Now everyone shut up. Hayden looks at me with soft eyes, “You really don’t remember?” Seriously, the stupid questions. “Would I ask you if I knew?! Now tell me what happened!?” a doctor comes in.”Good morning, Ms. Wilde, how are you feeling?” he asks. “Pretty damn confused! What happened?” He looks at my family and friends sorrowfully, “Ms.Wilde, can you tell me your birthday?” “August 29, 1997.” He nods his head. “Age?”  “15” Then he takes a deep breath, “Can you tell me who these people are?” I nod my head and start naming people around the room, my mom, dad, Hayden and Chase, Jessica, Sienna, Landon, Seth, Mr. And Mrs. Wilson, Amanda, Cameron, Brooke, and Chelsea but, I don’t know the baby.” That’s when my mom breaks down in tears. What’s wrong? “Ms. Wilde, do you know what year it is?” I nod my head and answer, “Of course, it’s 2012.” I hear my mother gasp and cry into my father’s shoulders.  “Ms. Wilde, do you remember playing in a soccer match against your rival school?” Of course, I remember! Why wouldn’t I remember this?  “Yes, I do. Did we win?”  The doctor writes one last thing down on his clipboard and says, “Yes, you did win but, unfortunately, you were injured very badly.” Me? Injured? I’ve never heard those words and myself in a sentence, together, before. “What do you mean, I was injured? I don’t get injured and that’s just truth.” The doctor takes a deep breath and my parents stand on both sides of my hospital bed. “Ms. Wilde, almost every question you answered was wrong. You’ve even forgotten a piece of your immediate family.” What? Did somebody give him something? “Okay, then, how old am I?” “You are 17 years old.” Seriously? “Isn’t that what I said?” Everyone in the room shakes their head.  “My birthday is August 29, 1997” Everyone nods their heads in response. “Yes, that is your birthday but, it is 2014. You are 17 years old.” I would remember what year it was, my parents throw a wicked New Year’s Eve party every year, I would remember. “Okay, so it’s clear that there is something wrong here, so are you going to fix it? Maybe tell me what’s happening to me while you’re at it!” My mom puts her hand on my shoulder, “Sweetie, please calm down.” For my mother’s sake, I cool off, a little. “So? What’s up, Doc?” Once again, he takes a deep breath, “Mikayla, you have Isolated Amnesia. It means that only certain things in your memory cannot be accessed in your brain. You see that baby over there?” I nod my head. “That’s your baby brother, adopted recently into your family.” How did I not remember this? “Ms. Wilde, there is no cure for this. The only way for you to regain your full memory is if your peers help you. You have to trust them with everything you have” he turns toward my ‘peers’ and says “and they have to tell you the truth, the WHOLE truth. Or she could be damaged like this forever. I’ll go run this paper work into the office and you’ll be free to go in a few minutes. Feel free to discuss this with your…family.” He walks out of the room, and then Cameron leaves too with his fists balled up, leaving me silent, not knowing what to do. I gulp, what am I supposed to do? “Honey, we’ll umm give you a second to process. Your brother brought your iPod if you wanted it, to umm…you know, process.” I didn’t say a thing or move a muscle; they took it as a yes anyways. I watched as everyone who was in the room shuffles out silently.  My father closed the door behind them and I grabbed my iPod and put it on shuffle drowning out the chaos.
