Selena read the text, a smile forming on her face at the nickname as she read it over again a few times more. Justin was driving her to school this fine Monday morning. They usually switch off whoever is driving to school. But they always drive there together.

Selena slung her backpack over her shoulder and quietly hopped down the stairs hoping not to wake anyone up. She went into the kitchen and grabbed a granola bar out of its cardboard container as a snack for later. Making her way to the front door she reached her hand out to grasp the handle, but the door suddenly began opening. She snapped her hand back and waited with curiosity for the mystery person to appear.

The door opened wide and Selena’s face fell as she simply stared at the man. Kurt stood at the door with his suitcase in hand. His eyes immediately landed on Selena and a mild look of surprise crossed his face.

“Hey Selena,” he said in greeting.

Selena knew he was supposed to be back from a business trip early this morning because of the time his flight had landed, but she was hoping to get out the door before he could arrive.

Selena didn’t say anything to him. She stared at him, her eyes wide with alert and watching for any sudden movement. After what felt like forever, but had only been a few seconds in reality, Selena quickly slipped her way past him and out the door.

Selena wrapped her arms around herself and kept her head lowered as she crossed the lawn over to Justin’s driveway. She quickly spotted him in his driveway leaning against a sleek, black motorcycle that she had never before seen.

Selena instantly forgot the run-in with her stepdad as she approached Justin who hadn’t noticed her yet due to the fact that he was, she was guessing, playingTempleRunon his phone (a game he had recently become obsessed with). She smiled a little, remembering how in to the game he could sometimes get.

Suddenly seeing movement out of the corner of his eye, Justin snapped his head up and smiled, putting his phone deep into his pocket. He walked to Selena and met her halfway to scoop her up in a hug. “Hey,” Selena giggled. Justin released the hug.

“Hi,” he said cutely. Justin led her back into the garage and he lifted a black helmet up to her. Selena took it from him cluelessly.

“What’s this for?” she asked perplexed. She looked at the bike and answered it for herself. “You’re not serious.” She said to Justin, giving him a disbelieving look.

“Oh I’m dead serious.” He smirked.

“We are not riding the motorcycle to school.”

“And why not?”

“I will be dead! If not by the bike, then by my mom.”

“Well do you see your mom anywhere?” He motioned his arms around.

“I’ll get helmet hair,” she said, using a different excuse this time.

“You won’t have it on long enough to get helmet hair,” Justin chuckled lightly.

Selena was silent for a moment before she gave in. “Fine. But if I die I’ll kill you,” she smiled a little.

“If you die, you won’t be alive to kill me.” Justin laughed and swung his leg over the bike to straddle the seat.
