Chapter 21
Justin’s P.O.V
My eyelids were heavy. I tried to fight the force that was pulling me under but it was no use. My head fell against my arms that rested on the desk. I let my eyes close and my mind drift elsewhere.
It didn’t last more than two seconds. A loud crack! sounded right by my ear, and my body shot to attention. My eyes alert, I glanced up to see my History teacher with a yard stick in her hand. An amused smirk lay on her face. “I know it’s Friday, Justin, but try to at least look like your paying attention in my class.”
I massaged my eyes with my hand. “Uh…sorry, I just haven’t gotten much sleep the past few nights.” I gave a yawn.
The teacher went back the front of the class, continuing to lecture.
This is the third day that I haven’t talked to Selena. I’ve tried to call and text her but she never responds. I haven’t seen her since the encounter in the parking lot. She hasn’t been at school. But whatever, I’ve tried to talk to her but she obviously couldn’t care less.
Lunch was a blur. I sat in the cafeteria today. I bought food, but the only use it made was something to play with.
Anatomy class started and the teacher passed around all the work for the new unit. The skeletal system. Her brows furrowed when she reached my half empty table.
“Where’s Selena been this week, Jay?”
“Who knows,” I shrugged.
Paige’s annoying voice spoke up. “Justin and Selena got into a fight. She’s probably hiding in her room.”
“Fuck off, Paige.” I spat at her.
“Whoa, okay guys. If Justin doesn’t know, he doesn’t know. No need for a hissy fit.”
I never paid attention for the rest of the class. Much like my other classes lately. The bell rang for the end of sixth period and I lazily got up from my seat. As I passed the teacher’s desk, she stopped me.
“Hey, Justin, if you happen to see Selena anytime over the weekend do you mind giving her the work she missed?” She asked and held out a stack of papers. I frowned while nodding and took the stack from her hands. I’ll add it to the growing pile.
I went to my last class of the day which was just a study. I tossed Selena’s work in my drawstring bag and sat. I just sat.
Five minutes went by.
Ten minutes.
Fifteen.
Twenty.
I finally couldn’t take it and collected my things. I walked up to the teacher. “Can I get a pass for the library?”
Without responding I waited as she filled out a piece of yellow paper and handed it to me. I left the class and instead of taking a right towards the library, I took a left to the Language hallway.
I walked past each classroom until I found the one I was looking for. Mr. Jefferson. Spanish class. Room 2111.
I walked right into the room and everyone’s eyes fell on me. “Hey, Justin. I’ll just be a sec. I’m giving them a worksheet in a minute.” Mr. J said as he stood at the white board.
I took my usual seat in his Comfy Chair. Yes, the seat is known for being very comfy. I sat at the teacher’s desk as I waited for him to finish. Mr. Jefferson was in his fifties, but he looked like he could be in his early forties. He was one of the funniest teachers I’ve ever had. But he can still be serious when needed. He was a sort of responsible male figure for me since I came to high school. Since my father is a fucking dead beat.
