Chapter 28

Author’s P.O.V

Justin slowly opened his drawer as to not wake the beauty that lay in his bed. He pulled out a T-shirt, closed the drawer, and opened another to retrieve some basketball shorts. He tried to be quiet about it, but apparently he wasn’t quiet enough because he started to hear some rustling followed by a “Justin?” come from behind him. He mentally cursed himself and stood. “Justin!” He heard again and turned around just in time for Selena to catch him in a hug. “I was so worried. Where were you last night? When did you get back?” She looked up at him from under her lashes as she kept her arms in a vise around him. She noticed he kept his hands awkwardly hanging at her back.

"I was just…out. Got back this morning. Needed a change of clothes." He held up the ball of clothes in his fist as he gave her a tight smile.

"Out?" She asked as he walked away from her heading into his bathroom.

"Mhm." He closed the door as he began to change.

"Oh," she mumbled and sat on the edge of his bed as she waited for him to return.

He exited the bathroom with a new outfit and his shoes hanging off his fingers. He made his way to the bed, sitting a good foot away from Selena as he put on his shoes.

"Can we talk about last night?" Selena asked tentatively.

"Can’t. I’m leaving." He grunted as he laced his shoes.

"Oh. Okay. It can wait, I guess. Where are you going?” She smiled encouragingly.

"Just uh…out with Ryan." He said as he finished his shoes and stood.

"Oh alright, well I—"

"Look I really can’t talk right now. I gotta go,” he brushed her off and left the room without a goodbye.

"—hope you have fun," she finished her sentence to herself. She sighed and fell back on the bed. This was gonna be difficult.

She suddenly felt a funny feeling in her chest. It felt like flutter feeling that was so significant that she raised her hand over her heart. She stayed like that as she focused on the sensation. Then after a few minutes, it was just gone. She rubbed her hand over the area subconsciously, wondering what the hell that was. But she convinced herself that it was nothing. She decided to just forget it.

Three days passed and Selena had barely seen Justin. Even during school. He was somehow always able to avoid conversing with her through the car rides, classes, lunches…everything. She didn’t understand why he was being so distant with her….Well she did, she just doesn’t understand why he won’t talk about that night. They both knew none of this would be settled until they talked it through.

Selena entered the house first, Justin taking his time behind her. She placed her school bag on the designated area on the floor. She waited to hear Justin do the same as she walked into the kitchen, but turned just in time to see him run up the stairs. She let out a heavy sigh again and proceeded to the kitchen, getting herself some water.
