"Looks like we were meant to be."

"I have to go away for a while, okay? I don't know when I'll be back... You'll have to stay at the Avengers Facility in New York, you'll go to school regularly. Nothing will change. You won't see me for a while, and I'm sorry for that, kid. I should be a good father to you, a father that stayed... You'll have Stark, and the others. I love you, Riley, and I'm going to try my hardest to clear my name to come back to you. I'm sorry we couldn't see each other in person one last time, this is not how I wanted our goodbye to be. And Riley-"
Riley listened to her dads voicemail for the thousandth time since her dad left, always sighing at the end, never knowing the last few words that he wanted to say.
She knows hes not dead, but it feels like it. Absolutely no contact, so she has no idea how he is, or where he is. Its torture.
The second parent to leave in the span of a year, quite terrible if you think about it. Riley Rogers, all alone, except for the Avenger family, but they're not blood. They're not her parents.
"Hey, Riley, we have to leave soon for school," Sabrina Stark said through the door as she knocked.
Riley unveiled herself from the covers and stood up, "Be ready in a sec." She changed into her clothes for the day and grabbed her phone and bag, then opened the door.
Her heart still felt heavy as she walked through the halls, all the way outside to where her best friend and driver waited in the car for her.
"You okay?" Sabrina asked her as she clicked her seat belt.
Sabrina asking Riley that question became a routine, but nothing short of genuine, and Riley appreciated it.
"Getting there." Riley sighed, "You?"
"Yeah, I'm good." Sabrina looked out the window and watched the building disappear, "Heard from Peter?"
"Not this morning, no. I mean it is just 8am." Riley half-smiled.
An hour later, the two girls arrived at Midtown High. Almost immediately, Riley found Peter.
"Parker!" Riley yelled from the curb as she had just stepped outside the car, seeing Peter walking up the steps with Ned.
Peter whipped around and upon seeing his best friends face, he lit up, "Rogers!"
Sabrina smiled at the duo, internally shipping them. "Ned." She nodded nonchalantly at Peters friend.
Ned nodded back, "Sabrina, hows it going?"
"Smoothly, but lets see how the day plays out, shall we?"
The four walked into school, side by side. Riley and Peter talking away as usual as Sabrina and Ned casually held a small conversation.
"So, Parker, are we still on for after school at your house?" Riley asked.
Peter smiled, "Definitely. Gotta get through this homework somehow,"
Riley sighed, "Yeah, sadly. I hate this project their making us do."
He nodded, and soon they got to class.
As the day progressed, Peter and Riley both started to get anxious about tonight. For they both knew they needed to work.
You know, Peters stark internship and Rileys training.
"Training" and "internship"
At lunch, the two boys sat at lunch while the two girls helped Liz hang up the homecoming sign.
