"You're afraid of me... aren't you?
--
Riley woke up around 8:30am, in pain. Not as bad as last night, but it was still pretty noticeable.
She got up and showered and then checked her phone.
8:45am.
"8:45?! SCHOOL STARTS AT 9!" She yells and grabs socks and shoes, as well as her bag. She stumbles her way to the door, ignoring the subtle ache her body gives off.
She runs outside to see no one waiting for her. Sabrina left without me? Riley thought.
She called Sabrina and after a few rings, she picked up. "Hey, did you leave already?"
"Yeah, my dad told me you got hurt and to not wake you this morning. How are you?"
"Why? I'm fine! I heal fast. I have super strength. I can withstand a lot more than the av- anyway how am I supposed to get to school on time?"
"Well you won't make it on time, but Vision could take you."
Riley sighed, "Yeah cuz I want to be dropped off aerial style. Ah whatever, its worth a shot. See you soon."
"See you. Wait, Riley, are you sure you're okay? Dad said you got beat up pretty bad."
"I'm fine. I'll see you soon."
Riley ended the call and ran back inside, calling for Vision.
Like a disobedient dog, Vision never came. He can walk through walls all he wants no matter how much we tell him not to but when I need him to just pop out right next to me, he doesn't.
"Ah come on man! I need to get to school." Riley sighed and leaned on a wall, closing her eyes.
"Need a ride?"
She opened her eyes, startled, and saw Sam Wilson standing beside her, holding his bird- I mean suit. "Yes, pleeeeease."
"Alright, I can take you. And between you and me, I'm cooler than Vision, right?" Sam said as he put on his wings. Riley nodded reassuringly.
Riley got to the high school at 9:30 and sprinted to her first class, which ended in 15 minutes.
As she stood outside the door, she decided not to bother. She already missed the introduction, climax and basically the conclusion of the class, so theres no point.
She walked to her locker and exchanged her books for the day. Inside her backpack she saw her Silk suit. Something in Riley pulled her away from the suit fearfully, and shoved it farther into her bag.
"Riley, I didn't know you'd be here today..." she turned and saw Peter walking towards her, holding a hall pass.
She smiled, "Hey, Parker. How are you doing?"
Peter looked at her weird, "How am I? How are you? You got hurt pretty-"
"I know I got hurt! I don't need a constant reminder, thanks." She slammed her locker and pulled her bag over her shoulder, gripping the strap tightly.
"I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't've asked. I'm just worried about you, last night was my fault." Peter awkwardly played with the pass in his hands.
Riley loosened her grip, feeling bad, "No, it wasn't. I chose to be there, I chose to put myself at risk of getting harmed. And I appreciate you asking, I just... I don't like people seeing me hurt."
Peter nodded and looked at his watch, "Uh, class ends soon, so I gotta..." he awkwardly started to turn around, "I-is everything... Is everything okay between us, Riley?" He asked.
