"She's just a kid. I can't change her entire life like this."---
Past
"Are you sure you want to adopt? I mean, you came out of the ice only a couple months ago, Steve." Natasha said after Steve confided in her about his thoughts.
Natasha and Steve have gotten more close since the Alien attack on New York a couple months ago. They seem to be best friends, siblings almost.
"I know. But, I... I just want to help, you know? I obviously don't want a baby, that would be harder than any battle I've fought, but I want a child. I want to be a father. I've always wanted that. When I met Peggy, I mean when we started to get to know each other more, I knew even more that I wanted kids." He put his face in his hands and groaned, "I don't know, Nat. Am I completely stupid? To want a child when I just entered back into this kind of work?"
Natasha stayed silent for a minute, "I think... it's brave of you, to want to help in this way, when your life has changed drastically. I... I don't want to crush your dreams, but honestly, it's a little crazy." Steve groaned. "However... if you decide to become a father, everyone here, everyone on your team, we'll help you. And Stark knows what to do, so he can help you in that field."
Steve knew he was crazy wanting to bring a child into this life. He knew he was just looking for someone to take care of, after watching his entire life crumble seconds after he woke up from ice. He wanted to be a father, he wanted to protect his daughter, or son. He wanted what every father wants; for their kid to be okay.
Steve Rogers knew what he wanted. But still, that little guy from Brooklyn, the kid, the scrawny stupid kid's voice is yelling at him because he has no idea what he would do with a child. He has baggage, possibly more baggage than anyone around him, well, maybe not more than Nat, but he still had a lot. So why in the world would he want to bring a child into that?
"I want a kid, Natasha. And it sounds stupid and impossible and quite possibly the stupid decision I will ever make, but... would... would you help me? If I adopted a kid, would you be there with me?"
Natasha stiffened, "Steve... I... I can't take care of a child. That kid would grow up to be so messed up."
He nodded. He understood. This was ludicrous.
Yet, he still wanted it.
"Would you want a son or a daughter?" Nat asked, after a couple minutes of silence.
Steve thought about it, but knew as soon as she asked. "A daughter."
"What would you name her?"
Steve knew that too. He'd stayed up through many nights fighting these thoughts. "Sarah. After my mother."
Nat smiled, "You seem to have thought a lot about this, haven't you?" He nodded. "I think you should do it. And... I can help. I'll try, to help."

Present
Riley, out of nostalgia and curiosity, began to look through her fathers things, since she already knew so little about him.
All she remembered from her past, was a lot of yelling, sirens, and hospitals. Her dad told her she was in a really bad accident when she was 9 years old, which caused her to have memory loss. Riley hasn't remembered anything before then.
She found a much of files and notes, although most of the notes are lists of things he wanted to discover, like one of them was phone, which made Riley laugh. It was so vague, like what kind of phone? A payphone? A cell phone? The options are endless. But that was her father, vague. Never delved into his past a lot. The most she knew about his past is that he's Captain America, his best friend died but came back, he froze and he was in love with Margret Carter. His Peggy.
