Chapter 26. Meet the Salvatinos ... Drew
"Wake up! Lawrence Ray I will jump on you if you don't get up right now," I yell at Lawrence in his room, hitting him with a pillow.
"It's only ten am Mare. I'm a growing child, let me sleep. You pillow abusing, crazy, mad women," Lawrence mumble.
"I don't want to have to do this Ray but I will, if I have to. Don't make me do this,"I plead.
"Great, I won't make you do it. Come back at twelve, maybe eleven-thirty and I'll be up. Nice having this conversation, I'll be going back to sleep now. Goodbye," Lawrence says pulling the cover over his head. I groan and get on the bed.
"One. two, three. I'm gonna jump," I say jumping on the bed, all around him.
"Mare, if you fall on me I won't hold back on tickling you until you cry and they won't be happy tears women," Lawrence threatens.
"Then wake up fool," I yell at him. He pulls the cover off of him and pull me down by my left leg making me fall on my back.
"Now you're gonna have to deal with the wrath of sleepy me. I warned you, Daya even warned you about this. Welcome to pre-hell Mare," Lawrence says and I gulp jokingly.
"I'm not worried. I've dealt with Darren and he's terrible when he doesn't get enough sleep. I'm a trooper, I'll deal," I say getting up and fixing my shirt.
"Okay," Lawrence says indifferently.
"Now, get up and shower young man. I expect to see you bright and grumpy at the kitchen table in thirty minutes," I peck his cheek and ruffle is already messy bed hair.
"You're gonna regret this Salvatino," Lawrence yells and I laugh.
"I never do, Ray," I skip down to the kitchen.
"He give you the "welcome to hell" phrase," Mr. Ray laughs.
"Of course," I shrug, giggling as Mr. Ray pounds my fist.
"Oh, cut it out you two! Leave my poor son alone," Mrs. Ray laughs while walking into the kitchen.
"You don't mean that Mrs. Ray. You just want to have all the fun to yourself," I joke with her.
"Of course! So, stop taking my job," She smiles and tap my arm.
"Veva she's still calling us Mr. and Mrs. Ray still," Mr. Ray says and I hide my face.
"Genoveva and Gabriel," I test it on my tongue.
"Veva and Gabe," I try again and I pout.
"I'm so use to calling adults by their last names. Stop being nice. Be like other adults and make me say Mr. and Mrs. still," I pout at them.
"No hija. We've known each other far too long for casualties still," Veva says and I nod.
"Okay, but you gotta give me some time to get use to it. Let it set in," I explain.
"Okay," Veva smiles.
"What did you say your ethnicity is," Gabe ask.
"I am African American from my dad side and from my mom I am Hispanic and Latina," I smile proudly.
"Wow," Gabe whistles.
"Yeah, dad has a mouthful," I giggle.
"So do you speak both Spanish and Latin fluently," Veva ask.
"Absolutely," I smile.
"My abuelo and abuela made sure I learned straight away when I was a baby. It was confusing but very fun, really funny. I'd learn Latin with my abuelo and Spanish from my abuela and then my dad would make sure I could still speak English at the end of the day," I smile at the memories.
