VII

"Hey, Tae." A pink haired boy plopped down next to Taehyung, who had decided to sit outside the dorm building by himself. 

Truth be told, he was a bit upset that Jungkook had snapped at him like that, but he also realized why Jungkook had done so.

Taehyung was being a nuisance, although he really didn't mean to come off as one. He just didn't really know how else to act with Jungkook...

"Hey." Taehyung smiled at Jimin. The two boys had had classes together in the past, and had become good friends despite their conflicting schedules. This trip was a nice chance for them to reconnect. "How's rooming with Yoongi so far?"

Jimin shrugged. "Not bad. He fell asleep as soon as he got to a bed, though." He chuckled. 

Taehyung sighed. "Yeah. Jungkook did, too."

"Oh that's right. He's your partner for this whole thing. Now that's gonna be interesting." Jimin grinned, earning a glare from the red-haired male.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Jimin rolled his eyes and looked at the sky. "You aren't subtle, Kim." He snickered. "I haven't seen you act like that much of a cocky asshole towards, well, anyone. Granted I've only known you for nearly three years, but in those three years, nothing like this."

"And...?" Taehyung muttered, crossing his arms.

"And you're definitely into him. And he'd totally be into you if you weren't such an asshat all the time." Jimin scoffed. Taehyung frowned.

"Thanks. Encouraging." He grumbled and stared at the concrete under his sneakers. 

Jimin rolled his eyes. "I'm not saying it's impossible, you dumbie. Just... Be nicer to him. Don't close yourself off and maybe, y'know, talk to him for once instead of acting like someone you're not."

Taehyung shrugged and sighed. "Yeah. Namjoon gave me that speech the other night too." He mumbled, then fell quiet. Both Jimin and Namjoon had fair points, and Taehyung agreed. It was just that he couldn't seem to stop himself from putting on that asshole facade whenever he was around Jungkook.

It was almost like the only way to get Jungkook's attention was to be irritating, and if he were to ever let that front down then the possibility of getting attached was all too real. 

Taehyung hated romantic attachment. He had seen first hand what it did to people's lives, and he had sworn to never get heartbroken. Was that too cheesy? Yeah, kinda.

Long story short, he had a friend in high school that was involved in a relationship that went down in flames. His friend was so destroyed that she stopped coming to school, flunked her classes, and inevitably moved schools. Now maybe that was just because it was high school and things would be blown way out of proportion if you so much as breathed in the wrong direction, but Taehyung would never forget the look on her face when they showed up to the junior year prom and she got that damn break-up text before they even walked into the dance. She looked so broken. 

It was then that Taehyung had made a point to never be in a position where he was vulnerable, and in turn... Well, it seemed like somewhere down the line, if he got close to that point he would become the 'heart breaker' instead. 

Again, super cliche, but real nonetheless.

Taehyung said goodbye to Jimin, saying he was tired and wanted to rest for a bit before the class group went out for dinner, and went back to the room. Jungkook was fast asleep, curled up comfortably in his bed and soft snores escaping his slightly parted lips. 

Taehyung almost smiled.

Instead he climbed into his own bed and laid down with his back to Jungkook. He didn't sleep though, he just laid there scrolling through his phone. There was nothing to do, no one to talk to. 

Thankfully his phone had automatically adjusted to the timezone and the time was now LA based. He looked at the time and groaned quietly. It was 5:04 pm, meaning that back home it was roughly 10 am. People would be awake, but in class or working. So Taehyung literally had no one to talk to.

"Jungkook?" Taehyung mumbled as he rolled over and sat up on the bed, glancing at the sleeping boy across the room. "Wake up. We have the group dinner at 5:30... that's in 25 minutes."

Jungkook stirred in the bed, rolling over so his face was visible to Taehyung. He remained asleep though much to Taehyung's discontent. Taehyung got off of his bed and walked to his side of the room, gripping and shaking his shoulder. 

"Hey- What the fuck?" A groggy voice grumbled, swatting the hand away. Jungkook opened his eyes to see the obnoxious red hair and glared immediately. "What?"

Taehyung, for some reason feeling that tingle in his gut that he got anytime Jungkook spoke to him, grinned. "Well hello, sleeping beauty." He cooed, ruffling the bedhead with his hand. 

"I'm not even one hundred percent awake yet and you're already being flirtatious. Figures." Jungkook snorted and shoved him away, getting off his bed. "Did you need something?"

"Yeah. Wanted to make sure my roomie didn't miss the group dinner." Taehyung shrugged as he grabbed his sneakers, beginning to pull them on. 

Jungkook rolled his eyes as he pulled a hoodie on. "Right... Well. I'm planning to sit with Jaehyung and his friends. You can sit with your friends." He waved a hand in his direction as he pulled some shoes on. Jungkook grabbed his phone and checked the time before grimacing. 

Taehyung watched him, leaning against the dresser on his side of the room and crossed his arms.

"Right. Yeah, I'll sit with my friends." He mumbled. "But what if I want to sit with my favorite baby doll?" Taehyung quickly masked his momentary disappointment with his typical taunting manner. 

Jungkook ignored him, simply responding with an eye roll as he left the dorm room. 

Taehyung frowned when the door shut and looked out the window, seeing the LA sun shine proudly on the horizon. He sighed to himself before looking away and leaving the dorm room himself.
