Present

Jessica

I walk in through the school doors, my book bag hung over my shoulders. My phone vibrates in my pocket and I pull it out when Emma comes from behind me squealing in my ear causing me to drop my phone. She laughs and picks it up off the ground and hands it to me. I roll my eyes and check why my phone vibrated, seeing that it was a text from Emmet asking to pick me up for lunch. I, of course, said yes because who am I to say no to free food.

"Hey, earth to Jessica," Emma waves her hand in front of my face catching my attention.

"Yes?" I reply, sliding my phone into my back pocket.

"How are you and Brandon?" She wiggled her eyebrows as she stops at her locker. I lean against it and fold my arms over my chest.

"What are you talking about?" I furrow my eyebrows.

"Oh come on, Shelby is literally writing your death sentence because you and him are always together and hanging out." She chuckles. Shelby is our schools 'queen bee' like there is in every movie. Shelby is also Brandon's ex-girlfriend, and she envies me.

"He broke up with her, not my fault. I had nothing to do with that." I throw my hands in defense and she just shakes her head.

"He seems to like you a lot." She smirks, closing her locker. I almost laugh out loud, there's no way.

"No he doesn't, he can't like me. We flirt and kissed like twice, doesn't mean he likes me," I say before realizing how ridiculous I sound.

"The way he looks at you, the way he is restraining himself from hugging you every time he sees you or wants to kiss you," she says in a soft lovey-dovey voice. I roll my eyes as we begin walking to our second-period class.

"Speaking of Brandon," she says in a whisper with a smirk. I look ahead to see Brandon walking our way with a smile.

"Hey girl, and Emma," he says in a playful manner. She sticks her tongue at him and he just laughs.

"Just because I can kick your ass Brandon doesn't mean I'm any less of a girl," she retorts. Brandon dramatically places his hand on his chest and gasps.

"Rude," he scoffs playfully "Anyways, can I talk to you, Jessica?" he looks me in the eyes, then I feel my cheeks heat up as I see Emma smirk from the corner of my eye, "Maybe alone?" He glares at Emma.

"Right, I'll tell Mrs, Lawson you went to the nurse," she says with a smirk as the bell rings. Brandon rolls his eyes as do I. She begins walking to class before turning around and silently jumping in the air in triumph.

He nervously shoves his hands in his pockets and rock back and forth on his heels. I chuckle as I see how nervous he is right now. What's making him so nervous?

"Is everything okay?" I ask with a chuckle. He softly smiles and picks his head up to look at me. He takes a hand out of his pocket and uses it to scratch the back of his neck.

"Yeah yeah totally," he shakes his head and clears his throat, "I was actually wondering if you would go on a date with me?" he says with hope laced in his voice. I chuckle softly before biting the inside of my cheek.

"Sure," I say with a warm smile playing on my face. His eyes lit up before smiling from ear to ear. It's cute how happy he got.

"How about Friday? We can watch a movie or something." He suggests.

"Clichè, but I'm okay with that," I laugh softly and so does he.

He laces his hand with mine and walks me to class. From the window of the door, I can see Emma with wide eyes and a smile. Brandon kisses my cheek before walking to his class. I stand outside of the classroom, trying to control the heat that is on my cheeks. After a few minutes, I take a deep breath before quietly opening the door and sliding into my seat, that happens to be right next to the door. Mrs. Lawson and I make eye contact briefly before shaking her head and continues to type on her computer. Okay then.
