Delilah

I rested my elbows on the cart and my chin on my hands as I wondered through the grocery store isles, grabbing what d need to make dinner for the next week, and some snacks and other things. I sigh as I decide to be healthy and grab salad kits because I'm much too lazy to make my own salads.

I can't resist grabbing ice cream, though, getting the most chocolatey one I can find. I see a small blonde boy smile to himself as he grabs Dino nuggets out of the freezer a bit further down the isle, and I smile. Who doesn't love Dino nuggets?

I move onto the next isle as I see the boy glance at his wrist watch and frown.

I finish my shopping within another half hour and then pay for everything. I go outside and take my groceries to my car, frowning as I hear sniffles and cries. I put the cart in the cart rack and lock my car before going to investigate.

I walk around the corner to see the blonde boy from earlier, sitting on the cold ground and leaning against the wall, crying. I frown and slowly approach him.

"Excuse me, love, are you ok?" He glances up at me, obviously startled.

"I-i- n-no!" He sobs, burying his face in his arms as he curls further into a ball.

I kneel down, sitting on my knees in front of him.

"What's wrong?"

"I m-missed da- b-bus h-home and I c-can't wa-walk and it d-doesn't come till mor-morning!" He cries.

"What's your name, love?" I say in a comforting tone.

"W-wuke." He blushes and rubs at his eyes as he tried to stop crying, and I wonder if he might be a little with the way he acts.

"Luke?" He nods. "I'm Delilah. Now, where do you live, hmm?"

"I-I d-don't- I ca-can't-"

"It's ok Luke, I won't hurt you. But if you tell me where you live I can give you a ride home."

"D-don't know."

"You don't know?"

"I- no."

"Luke, are you little?" He gulps and nods, seeming a bit more comfortable as he brings his arms away from his face and makes eye contact.

"Okay, love, I'm gonna need you to be big now so you can tell m where you live. You can be little after that though, if you'd like." I assure.

"K-Kay, miss." He says as he covers his face, rubbing at his eyes as he tried to stop crying.

"How'd you know I was lit-little?" He asks in a more mature voice.

"I've had a little before."

"You're a mommy?"

"Yep." I nod. "Now do you wanna tell me where you live so I can drive you home?"

"You don't have to."

"It's ok, no ones waiting up on me. And besides, wouldn't want you waiting till morning for the next bus. It's pretty cold out."

He nods. "I-i live a bit out of town, straight past the high school." He mumbles. "Is that too far?"

"No, that's the same way I'm going." I lie. I live right by this grocery store pretty much, but it doesn't bother me any. He's cute, and I could never leave anyone, especially a little, out in the cold at night.

"Now let's go. My cars right over there." I point, then stand, helping him up and leading him to my car. He gets in the passenger seat and I get in the front.

"Buckle please." I mumble, chuckling as I see him quickly remember and apologize, buckling up.

I have him type his address into my phone and then ask if he wants to play on it during the drive, as it'll be 20 minutes or so, and I don't want him getting bored. He blushes and shyly nods as he begins slipping into little space.

He plays the games on my phone as I follow the verbal directions the phone give me to his house, answering the questions his little self asks along the way.
"Where do you live?"
"Not far."
"Do you live alone?"
"Yep."
"I wish I lived alone." He frowns.
"Nah, it gets lonely." I smile.
"I can come give you company!" He giggles.
"That would be lovely, little Luke." I smile.
"Do you have any pets?"
"I have a bunny. Her name is duchess."
"Cooolll!"
"And a cat. He's pretty old though."
"What's his name?"
"Captain cuddles." Luke giggles at the immature name and I chuckle.
"I named him when I was three." I explain.
"Where do your parents live?"
"In Melbourne. We don't get along too great, so I moved out when I was 18."
"Me and my dad don't get along very well either. I wanna move out." He pouts.

"Hmm. Do you go to highschool?"
"I dropped out and got my GED." He explains. "Ooh! Look! Look!" He says as he sees a horse munching grass by a fence.

"Ooooh, do you like horses?"

"Mh hm! They're really big and wierd looking. They're cooool."

"Have you ever ridden a horse?"

"Nuh uh."

"Hm. What do you like to do?"

"Draw! And sing! And... yeah." He giggles.

"Well, maybe you can draw me a picture for the next time I see you, sound good?"

"You wanna... see me again?"

"Well yeah, silly boy."

"Oh." He giggles. "Okay. I will. When?"

"I don't know, well had to plan something, hm?"

"Yep." He giggles, popping the p.

"Alright, is this it?" I ask as I pull in front of the house my phone directed me to.

"Oh, uh, yeah." He mumbles, a pout forming on his lips.

"Thank you so much for taking me home, Delilah!"

"Of course, Luke. Do you have a phone?"

"Um, uh huh." He mumbles. "Why?"

"Can you put in your number so I can text you?" I ask as I go to contacts and hand him my phone. He nods and puts in his contact info before grabbing his grocery bags, smiling, giving me a kiss on the cheek, and waving good bye. I watch to make sure he gets in the house safely before heading home.
