"Oh no! It's....Daisy!" Ashstar meowed. He looked down at her frozen body.

"What do you think killed her?" Jaywing gasped.

Ashstar crouched down, sinking his claws into the grass, feeling the cold earth beneath his pads. "Whoever killed her....."

"We'll find out," Jaywing meowed.

Mothpaw bent down to sniff at Daisy's wound; a long swollen gash that started at her flank and curved up to her neck. She put her paw onto the wound. "This wound got infected."

Jaywing turned to her daughter. "Maybe that's what killed her."

"But we need to find out who did this," Ashstar growled. He put his nose to the wound, sniffing. He tried to pick up a scent. Then, as the wind stopped blowing, the faintest scent bathed his tongue. The scent was familiar.

"Wolfpaw!" He growled. "Wolfpaw did this!" He cried.

Jaywing gasped. "Are you sure?"

"Yes! I picked up his scent!" Ashstar growled. He lashed his tail. "When I find him, StarClan knows what I'll do!" Ashstar hissed.

Jaywing shifted her paws. "He's your son," She meowed. "You shouldn't kill him."

"I should and I will," Ashstar growled, bristling. He arched his back, claws unsheathed.

Jaywing bristled and narrowed her eyes. "But he's your son," She growled. "You can't kill your son!"

Ashstar flattened his ears against his skull. "Oh really? I will! Do you know all the pain he's put us in? He's killed Daisy! We're out here dying because of Wolfpaw! If only I killed him when I had the chance, and then we'd be back home in ThunderClan camp!" He meowed. He lashed his tail. "I had the chance to kill him, but I failed."

Jaywing backed up.

Mothpaw looked terrified. She started backing up and then turned, running across the hill.

Ashstar blinked at Jaywing.

Jaywing stood up, claws unsheathed. "Fine, go and kill him if that's what you want," She growled. "No one's going to help you do that," She hissed.

"Then...." Ashstar's voice trailed off. "I never told you," He whispered as she started walking away.

Jaywing kept walking away from him.

"I killed an innocent WindClan warrior. I thought it was Wolfpaw. I got so mad...I...I ripped out his throat," He muttered.

Jaywing stopped dead in her tracks, her tail flicking. She turned around, her whiskers flicking. "What?"

"I said I killed an innocent WindClan cat!" Ashstar cried. He sheathed his claws, feeling like a warrior; the time when he was insane. "I've been killing to many cats!" He growled. "But Wolfpaw... he deserves his death!" He growled.

He turned and raced down the hill, heading into the forest. Memories flashed through his mind.

/Flash back/

"It's another tom!" Brightheart meowed.

"Look!" Cinderheart purred. "He's gray like his father!"

"Lets name him Wolfkit!" Ashstar meowed.

The little tom kit crawled over to his mom, quietly suckling.

/End of flashback/

Ashstar kept running, trying to get to ThunderClan camp.
