Ignatius was clearly on edge, not having expected the dragon around the next corner. But, I was in awe. It had yet to notice us, and I knew that was probably was a good thing, but I wanted to step closer.
I studied the large and glistening scales, I couldn't see an imperfection anywhere on the creature.
"Bella step back." I was snapped out of my thoughts with a harsh and scared Ignatius almost shouting at me, and that's when I realised I had instinctively taken a few steps towards the dragon. Ignatius' intentions were good, but the dragon had heard, and was now glaring at me, before I could run away it roared loudly and fiercely. For some reason, it didn't scare me, and I stared directly back at it.

It studied me carefully, and in that moment I forgot that Ignatius was behind me cowering in fear. I felt weirdly alive and not even slightly scared. This felt right.

The next few seconds dragged on, and before I knew it the dragon was laying down only a few metres in front of me, it's eyes watching me and almost begging me to get closer.

I didn't turn back to Ignatius, I just assessed the situation. I knew dragon behaviour, and this was odd. Dragons weren't usually submissive, it was a sign of trust, how could this huge dragon already trust in little old me?

I stepped forward slowly and I heard more voices behind me, more people had arrived, obviously having realised a dragon had escaped and this might be messy. But, they were all stunned into silence. The newbie was handling it, and none of them had expected it.

"Bella be careful!" I heard Arthur hiss behind me, but I ignored him.

I gently kneeled down next to the large dragon head, its eyes were watching me and I studied him back in awe, his eyes were gold and shimmered in the warm sun, "You're not going to hurt me are you?" I asked for some reason.

The dragon moved his head and stared me in the eye, I felt my heart racing but I held my ground. Instead of killing me with fire, it simply blinked before placing its head on my lap gently. I gasped in shock, but gently stroked the large scales, I felt the dragon hum underneath me as I simply pet it.

This was insane... how was I not dead yet?
