He woke up to the cheerful smile of his mother. As he remembered all the drama that happened the previous night, he knew that smile was completely out of place. It had no right to be there. And yet, it was there, like always.
For the twenty years that he has known her, that's how she started all her mornings. He had once asked her the obvious questions of how and why, and she had simply pointed to the sun and said, "Be like that."
The sun was just out of its hiding place, the horizon, looking fierce as always in its red glory. Surprisingly though, there was no fierceness in its nature. It was cool and calm like he had never seen before. But that moment was the end of it too. It started to pick up heat as it changed colour and soon it was the hot and angry sun that he has always known. That cool composure of the morning was just a mask after all.
"No matter how many troubles you face today, no matter how many tears you shed today, take all those hardships with you as you set into the night. When you wake up tomorrow, always start your morning with calmness. All your other colours can follow later."
His mother's words then still echo in his mind, reminding him to start his day with a smile.
