~Five years earlier ~
Jazmine runs into the house quite excited, she races straight to find her mother, Abigail; who is busy preparing dinner in the kitchen.
"Mom!Mom! Look!?" the teenager commands, while holding up her examination paper in her mother's view.
Abigail's eyes first land on the score which is a 'B+' and releases a laughter of joy, squeezing her daughter in a great embrace. "Oh my baby! I'm so proud of you. Wait until your father hears about this." Jazmine's beam vanishes in a speed of light, she knows that her father wouldn't be happy with her score, he always wanted a perfect score, an 'A+'
"Yeah, I don't think so."Her mother merely brushes it off "Don't think like that, he will be proud and happy, I hope it's in God's plan."
"Where's Andrew, I gotta tell him the good news."
Abigail turns her attention back to chopping the veggies. "Ah, that thug of a boy? He's probably with his gangsters or his white girlfriend." she proceeds to add on. "Besides, even though that girl's white, I can't shake off the feeling that she's just as bad news as those thugs. You know I always thought that white people were good people, you know they are like saints...I guess I was wrong, there are some who are just bad...oh Lord help them, show them mercy..."
Jazmine rolls her eyes, here she goes again and she engages in thinking of an excuse to get away from her racial stereotypes. "Yeah, I'm going up to my room...to do homework."
"You know Jazmine, you must marry a white man, they are handsome, treat you right, and have tons of cash."
Jazmine rolls her eyes again, while evading up the stairs to her room, she still perceives her mother's fancies, sometimes she wishes that she'd tell her why she didn't that, instead of punishing her daughter with her fantasies and preferences, though the teenager knows better then to talk back to her mother.
She throws her school bag onto her bed, she decides to take a nap, though her growling tummy reminds her that she hasn't had any lunch, but since like she's already comfortable on her bed it wouldn't be a problem to ignore it for couple more hours.
A light knocking on the window pulls her out of snugness, she sees that the culprit is none other than her brother Andrew, the teenager makes gets up and lets him in.
"Thanks, lil'sis."
"Why do you like coming in like this?" Jazmine complains irately.
"You knows that timer don't like seein' my face around here. Ey, ain't ma and pops still goin' to some family reunion?"
"Tonight,if I remember correctly."
"Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout, I'm comin' back tonight." with that Andrew is heading towards the window.
"By the way, I passed my history test with a 'B+'.""Now that's my lil'sis, you'd be a lawyer for reals...and keep your big bro outta jail, ain't that right?" he compliments her along with a wink, indicating that he's just kidding around
"Just don't get way ahead of yourself." is all Jazmine's comeback.
"Jazmine, Jazmine!" Abigail calls out for her daughter.
"I gotta go, mum's calling me."
