A Gift

Evan walks down the hall toward his locker, smiling softly when he notices Connor waiting for him like always. The brunet's existence alone can make Evan happy.

He opens his mouth to say hello, but is cut off automatically by a rambling Connor, who's blush deepens with every word.

"Hey, sorry for cutting you off, but I've been rehearsing what I'm about to say all day and if I don't say it now I won't at all. Okay, so, I know you don't, like, celebrate Christmas or anything, and I don't really understand how Hanukkah works, but I, uh, I got you a gift anyway." He holds it out and looks away, arm slightly shaking.

Evan carefully takes the wrapped package out of Connor's hand, thanking him quietly. The wrapping paper is a shiny blue covered with snowflakes, complete with a small, white bow on top. Evan's name is scrawled across the paper in Connor's handwriting.

He smiles at the taller boy before opening his locker and pulling out his backpack, starting to put the gift inside. Connor touches his shoulder almost fearfully, stopping him.

"What are you doing?"

Evan's gaze flickers from Connor to the gift and back. "Oh, I was going to, um, open it at home."

"Can't you do it now? I want to, you know, see your reaction." He smiles through the last few words, causing Evan's heart to melt. He obliges, setting his backpack on the floor and carefully unwrapping the box.

He slowly opens it, Connor watching anxiously. A tiny, audible gasp falls from his mouth at what lies inside.

A braided leather bracelet, complete with two charms - one a heart, and the other two tiny pine trees.

"Connor..."

"Do you like it? If not, that's okay, I understand. Should I have even bought you anything? I'm so sorry, Evan, I can take it back if-"

Evan silences Connor's rambles with a quick peck on the lips, a single stray tear rolling down his cheek. "I love it. No one has ever given me anything like this."

Connor smiles back at him, taking the bracelet and hooking it around Evan's wrist. A perfect fit.

"I'm glad. Take you home?" Evan nods and the two walk hand-in-hand out the door. Small snowflakes land in their hair. "I love you, even if you are a tree baby."

Evan laughs, pulling his boyfriend closer and fiddling with the charms of the bracelet. "I love you, too."
