Sirius Black was always known for being the bad boy. He was the punk-rock fuckboi who showed up to school everyday on a motorbike clad in an authentic leather studded jacket. No one would have ever suspected that he spent he free time tucked away in a library reading Shakespeare or Dickens for fun and he wanted to keep it that way.
One Tuesday afternoon, he pulled up to the library on his bike as usual and stride through the automatic doors. He had a coffee in one hand and his helmet was nestled underneath his arm.
As he looked around he observed that there was a new assistant librarian working at the checkout counter. Sirius had to admit that the boy was rather cute with his mousy brown hair sweeping his head in messy curls and his freckles that dotted his abnormally pail skin.
Sirius walked past the boy and sat down onto his favorite beanbag chair that was located at the very back of the rather big library. It had an extensive collection of books and currently Sirius was working on finishing Hamlet.
A cool voice rang throughout the building's walls warning the guest that their time was almost up. That meant Sirius' escape for the day was coming to a close as well. He snapped his book shut and stride back over to the front desk to re-check his book.
" Hello, I hope you found what you were looking for."
Sirius looked up and realized that the cute boy from earlier just so happened to be the one who was helping him.
" Yeah, thanks for asking."
The boy smiled warmly.
" Hamlet, huh? I wouldn't have pegged you for the Shakespeare type."
" No one ever does," he lowered his eyes to the name tag pinned to his companion's chest, "Remus."
Remus chuckled and scanned the book by the barcode.
" Well the due date is December 30."
" Thanks. The name's Sirius, by the way."
" I'm Remus, Remus Lupin."
The name sounded familiar to Sirius.
" Hey, what school do you go to?"
Remus looked at him curiously.
" Hogwarts School for the Gifted. Why?"
" You're that kid that skipped a grade!"
Remus laughed, but it had a strangely sad tone to it.
" So I am."
" Well, maybe I'll see you around, Remus?"
He nodded and handed Sirius his book with the receipt sticking out of the top. Sirius waved goodbye and exited the library promptly.

The Black manor was never a home for Sirius. It was more of a prison that suffocated him with every patterned wall closing in slowly. He always tried to avoid his parents whenever they were home, which wasn't very often. They were always at work, selling real estate to wealthy investors.
His brother Regulus was the the president of the Business Association for Young Entrepreneurs at their high school while Sirius was struggling to maintain his grades and keep his spot as captain of the esteemed Rugby team.
He snuck through the grand halls of the manor and slipped quietly into his bedroom. He hid the newly acquired library book under his pillow in hopes that no one would find it.
He started on his homework, but he couldn't concentrate in this claustrophobic space. He slammed the textbook shut and decided to leave it for some other time.
