Justin's P.O.V
I stretch after I throw the covers off of my body, making my way to the bathroom. Today was the big day.
The day I get a job.
Closing the bathroom door behind me, the sight of myself makes me groan. The slight bags under my eyes and the stubble made me look older than my age. I sigh. Everything was definitely getting to me, from the pregnancy to my father's idea of me paying him rent. I hear a knock at the door disrupting me from brushing my teeth.
"Yeah?" I answer.
"Justin, it's mom. When you're finished, I'd like to talk." My mom says softly through the door.
"Okay." I reply, internally groaning.
I knew exactly what she wanted to talk about, Dad's condition to me staying in his house. Finishing up in the bathroom, I open my room door to see my mother waiting on my bed. She turns to face me.
"Come take a seat." She pats the spot near her. I sigh, knowing there was no way to avoid the impending conversation. "I tried reasoning with your dad but he.."
"Mom, I know my options. Find a job or move out." I tell her.
"I know you know." She softly speaks. "And I know you'll end up making one of those choices because as much as you'd hate to admit it, you're as stubborn as your father."
I grunt in response before she chuckles.
"He still stands with his decision but I've pulled some strings and I contacted my friend who was looking for someone to work at his restaurant. It's high class, so he expects you to dress in business attire. You'll still have to be interviewed but I think you'll do great."
"Thanks, mom." Is all I really could say. She always knew what to do to guide me out of my troubles. "I appreciate you doing that, but I need to do this on my own."
"Can you at least try to make it to the interview? I only referred you, it's now all up to you to actually impress him. That will be you on your own." She replies, her eyes piercing into mine.
"Alright, I'll go." I give in to her plea. "But if I don't pass it, I do it my way."
"I didn't expect any less from you." She smiles. She gets up and places a hand on my face. "Good luck. Your interview is at 2 pm."
"Thanks." I say, closing the door behind her.
After finding a suit in the back of my closet, I try it on hoping that it still fits. It doesn't, earning a grunt from me. I quickly get dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, snatching my keys off of my desk. I leave the house angry after putting on my shoes. I had to do something I'd never done before.
Ask Jason for money to buy a suit.
I knew exactly how he'd react. He'd be sure to laugh in my face. I hesitate for the first time, ringing the doorbell to his house. I'd usually use the spare key but barging in someone's house and then asking for a loan didn't seem like the right thing to do. Then again he was my best friend. I go against my better judgement and grab the key, opening the door after a minute of no one answering. The house seems empty and I suddenly feel like a burglar until I hear a door shut upstairs.
"Jason?" My voice echoes in the empty hallway.
I see him appear at the top of the stairs.
"Justin? What are you doing here so early?" He questions, reaching me at the bottom of the stairs.
"You know I don't usually do this but I need an important favor from you." I say, following him into the kitchen.
"What do you need?" He inquires, pouring some cereal.
