Emma's P.O.V
I hear a soft knock on my door.
"Come in." I sniffle. The door slowly opens to Justin. He approaches my bed and sits down beside me.
"Are you crying? Please don't cry." He wipes my tears.
"Stop. Just, please stop." I plead him and stray away from his touch.
"I came here to tell you something."
"What?"
"This is going to be hard. It's not something that is easy to say but, I wanted to say I just can't deal with this anymore. This, us. This whole thing was just a mistake on my part. I thought I could make it work but it's just not." He confesses in a soft tone. His words hurt me more than anything else.
"What are you trying to say?" I croak.
"I think we should go our separate ways. And I'm saying it this way because you are a good person. And I'm trying to let you down easily."
"That and he's found someone else." Crystal appears in my doorway. She sends a smile my way. I look towards Justin.
"Is that true?" Fresh tears find their way down my cheeks again. His head hangs and he doesn't try to meet my eyes.
"Yes. I think it's best if I'm out of your life. You don't need someone who is destructive."
"No. I don't want this. Why? Why are you doing this? I didn't want our argument to be our breaking point. Stop. Is it Crystal? Is she doing something for you?" I search his eyes for answers. Anything that could give away that this was all just a trick.
"No." Is all he says.
"No?? Justin, please. I just don't understand. Couples have arguments. We can work through this!"
"Wake up, Emma! This is just not real!! Just wake up already from your fantasy. We aren't perfect." Justin shouts. "We didn't share anything."
"What? How can you say that?" I sob.
"Emma! Wake up!" I am shaken to my mom's comforting face. I am left confused but relieved it is only a dream.
"Mom..." I hug her.
"Honey. It was just a bad dream." She comforts me. "It's okay."
"Justin broke up with me in the dream for Crystal. I hope our argument doesn't result in that."
"Sweetheart, couples have arguments sometimes. It's healthy to argue every once in a while. You two will work through it. You two just need some time apart to think for yourselves."
"But Justin left pretty angry last night." I tell her, releasing myself from her embrace.
"I know. It was in the heat of the moment. He'll cool down. Give him some time. Just talk about it. Best way to get over your problem is to have a mature conversation about your insecurities or feelings in the relationships. Lay everything on the table."
"You think so?"
"I know so. I've done it with your father. It works."
"Are you sure?" She nods. "Thanks, mom."
"That's what I'm here for." She rubs my back before getting up. "Get ready and come eat breakfast, you have to be at school in an hour."
"Okay." I simply say. I had completely forgotten today is Monday. My mind lingers at the thought of how Justin will behave throughout the day. Will he still be mad or will he try to make amends? Can I even face him after last night? I push those thoughts to the back of my head, remembering the time limit before I have to be at school. I couldn't let relationship problems affect my education. After all, my education is my main priority.
