Emma's P.O.V
"Emma, my baby!" My mother rushes into the room, followed by my father.
"Mom, I'm okay." I say once I'm in her embrace.
"Did the doc-" My father begins before Justin cuts him off.
"Mr. Chambers, can I speak with you outside for a moment please?" Justin questions. I look at him curiously.
What could he want to talk to my father about?
Justin avoids looking at me, proceeding out the room behind my father.
"How did this happen?" My mother's voice breaks my gaze from the shutting door. I look at her wearily.
"I'm not sure. I was trying to get to class and the hallway was too crowded, someone must've bumped into me and I fell." I speak, trying to reassure that she had nothing to worry about. I couldn't tell if it was for her or for myself. My thoughts go back to Justin. Why couldn't he tell my father what the doctor had said in the room with me? What was he holding back?
They enter the room a second later, facing me after exchanging a look between themselves. My father calls my mother out of the room, leaving Justin and I alone. He walks cautiously to my bed, taking a seat before reaching for my hand.
"Are you okay?" He questions, hesitantly.
"Why does everyone keep asking me that question?" I chuckle. "I'm perfectly fine."
"I just keep thinking I should've been there to stop that from happening. What if something had happened to you or our baby?" He admits. "I couldn't forgive myself if anything did."
"Justin, we're both fine. That's all that matters. It's all over now." I smile. He smiles, but I could tell it was forced.
"I'll go find out when you'll be discharged." He informs me before leaving my side.
My parents come back into the room, worried looks plastered on their faces but the moment our eyes meet, they quickly mask it with a smile.
"What's going on?" I ask, suspicious of their behavior.
"Nothing, sweetheart. I just had a hard time calming down. When I got the call from Justin, I was worried sick out of my mind. I'm just glad you're okay." My mom replies, reaching out for my hand.
I nod. Despite the lingering bad feeling in the back of my mind, I smile.
"The doctor says you can be discharged in two hours." Justin breaks the short silence upon walking back into the room.
"Great. I hear the food in this place is terrible." I joke, hoping to ease their worries.
The two hours passed slowly, Justin and I making small talk whilst my parents filled out the paperwork. The doctors advised me to take things easy and I was carefully placed in the car and on the way back home. The ride was filled with radio music played at a low volume, and Justin fiddling with his phone. Despite my parents and Justin in the car, I felt alone. I felt as though I was the only one who didn't know everything. I felt as if I was on the outside of things.
The car stops abruptly, launching me out of my thoughts to my dad cursing another driver for being reckless behind the wheel.
"How do these people get their license?" He mumbles to himself.
"Calm down, honey." My mother soothes him.
He pulls into our driveway, shutting the car off but not before taking a moment to himself. A minute later, he unlocks the doors.
