Kylie's POV

I take my time getting ready for dinner. I stand in the shower until all the hot waters out. I slip the dress on and stand in front of the mirror looking at myself. My hair is light blonde. It's so short it barely touches my shoulder. It's annoying. I reach into a drawer in the sink vanity and take out a pair of scissors. I cut my hair as straight as possible.

There. Much better. My hair is now very short. Boy short. Shorter than Ansel's. I shake my fingers through. I don't even have to style it.

I do my make up and slide on a pair of my mom's heels since I didn't bring any fancy shoes. I study myself in the mirror again. My new hair gives me a boost of confidence. But my mind is reeling. Am I going on a date?

I walk downstairs slowly, like they do in movies. Giving my mom, Todd, and Ansel a second to take in my new look. All three mouths gape open.

"What did you do to your hair?" My mom asks.

"I like it" Ansel says, walking toward me. An awed smile on his face.

I run my hand over my hair, hoping that my face isn't as red as I think it is.

"You do?" I ask.

He nods. " I do." He slips his fingers in between mine.

We leave without another word. He opens the door to the car for me. I laugh and shake my head. I grab the keys from his hand and run over to the driver seat.

He poutfully gets in the passenger seat.

"Where are we eating?" I ask.

"Red Lobster." he says.

I smile. That's my favorite restraunt.

He stretches his arm out and plays with my hair. He looks at me thoughtfully.

"What brought this on?" He asks.

"What?"

"The change."

"It's just a haircut." I say

"Your make up is different too." He points out. And he's right. I usually wear heavy eyeliner and a lot of foundation. Now I have on no eyeliner and light foundation, giving me a prettier natural look.

"I'm trying to change and how I look is a good start." I say

"Change in what ways?" He asks, curiosity on his gorgeous face.

"I don't know. I want to be a better person."

"I think you're a spectacular person."

We're at the restraunt now. I turn in my seat to look at him.

"You know I have flaws." I say

"Don't we all" he mutters.

We walk inside and get our table. We make small talk while we order our food.

"This place is amazing." I say

"I know how much you love it." Ansel smiles.

"So what are we?" I ask quietly

He twists his straw from his drink around his fingers. HIs face is thoughtful.

"I've thought about me and you for a long time," he begins. He looks at me, and I feel tingles when we make eye contact. "But you're right. I can't lose you as my friend. We don't know what it would be like to be together. Would it be awkward? Or natural? I don't ever want anything awkward between us. So maybe we shouldn't risk it."
