Greyson was still sleeping when I woke up. I'd layed awake for half the night thinking about the perfect way to do this. I decided to just slip the ring onto his finger and photograph his face when he realized. I could use the pictures for my school project, and I could have the reaction forever. I set up my camera on a shelf and aimed it towards the bed, then hit record when Greyson started waking up.
He opened his eyes and stretched, then closed his eyes again.
"Greyson." I said quietly. "Wake up, baby."
He shook is head and tried to pull the blanket over his face. I slid down next to him and kissed him all over his face and his chest. He eventually opened his eyes again and turned onto his side so he could properly kiss me good morning. He picked up his left arm so he could wrap it around me, and I guess thats when he noticed. He held his arm up for a second, then pulled it closer to his face.
"Did you put this on me?" he asked.
I nodded.
"It's so nice." He said, smiling. "What is it.."
He stopped at the end of that sentence and looked at me. I could see it in his eyes that he realized what it was.
"I need you, Greyson." I said, taking the hand with the ring on it in mine. "And I know that all of this happened way too fast. But you are all I want, and all I'll ever want, for the rest of my life."
He was shaking so badly now, like his body had gone from zero to sixty in less than ten seconds. His big blue eyes had tears in them. But there wasn't much of an expression on his face.
"Greyson, will you marry me?"
It was like a dam broke. Greyson started sobbing, which made me cry too. He took his hands away from me and wrapped himself around me. He clung to me so tightly, and just cried. This was exactly what I expected to happen. I knew Greyson wouldn't be able to keep it together. He was way too fragile. I just wasn't totally sure why he was crying yet. He was either very happy, or very upset. After a few minutes, I spoke again.
"Grey, baby, can I have an answer?" I asked, wiping the tears from my own eyes.
He picked his head up and used my sleeve to dry his eyes. Then he rested his forehead against mine, closed his eyes, and nodded twice.
"Is that a yes?" I asked.
He smiled, keeping his eyes closed, and said, "Yes, Luca. A million times."
I leaned forward and kissed him for a while. I didn't know what to say next. I was so happy, and so overwhelmed.
"Look at the inside." I said when I settled myself.
He took the ring off and tilted it so he could see. He had the one with my initials on it.
"Don't cry anymore, okay? I don't like seeing you so upset."
"I'm far from upset." He smiled. "Can I see yours?"
I got my match from my drawer and he looked at it.
"GEM. Does that mean you're okay with me taking your name?"
"Of course. Why wouldn't it be?" I asked.
"You just really liked mine." He shrugged. "That's all."
"Well you didn't want to be a Costello anymore. So now you can be a Meyer, and we'll love you a whole lot more than any Costello ever could."
Greyson took my hand and slid the ring onto my finger, then let me put his back on him. He pressed his forehead against mine once again.
"I get to drown in your eyes for the rest of my life." he smiled. "And there is no way that I would rather die."
