"This is the best thing ever," Grayson groaned as he took another bite of his pizza. I took one look at him and burst out laughing. "I feel think you like that pizza more than you like me."
"I mean it does taste good so..." He arched an eyebrow at me and took another bite.
"Well I guess, you'll have to see how I taste and compare the two."
Grayson choked on his pizza. He dropped the entire slice on his place, coughing violently. His face turned bright red and I started to laugh again. He reached for his water and took a sip only to start coughing again. When he finally regained his voice he looked up at me, "What did you just say?"
I looked at him. "I think you heard me."
"You-" he looked at me dumbfounded. "And they say that guys have dirty minds."
I shrugged unapologetically and finished off my slice. I wiped my hands with a napkin.
"Here-" Grayson peeled a pepperoni off his slice and held it up. "Open your mouth." He smirked after saying that and I rolled my eyes at him. I complied and he threw the pepperoni, which I managed to catch in my mouth.
"Yeah!" He fist pumped the air. "The crowd goes wild."
"Your turn," I told him. I held up another pepperoni and threw it. He caught it in his mouth and did a mini victory dance. I chuckled. "People probably think we're high."
"Who gives a fuck what people think," Grayson said, as he finished his pizza. "Ready?"
I nodded and we threw away our trash, heading out into the parking lot. I slid into the driver's seat of the car and Grayson took the passenger side. We'd walked back to my house from the woods and decided we'd take my car because I didn't want to ride in the passenger seat. Especially not today.
"Drake or G-Eazy?" Grayson mused, scrolling through his playlist.
"Drake," I said automatically as I pulled out of the parking lot. Grayson complied picking a song and letting it play softly in the background. The drive back was short and when we arrived at my house, I realized my parents were home. I twisted my mouth to the side before turning to Grayson. "My parents want to meet you."
He blinked. "Meet me?"
"Yeah. I told them not yet, that I would talk to you first. But they're here now. I mean you can go home if you want, I won't force you to stay but... eventually, they want to meet you."
Grayson ran a hand through his hair. "Meet your parents," he repeated.
"They aren't that bad, I promise."
He swallowed. "Let's do it now."
"Are you sure?"
He shrugged. "I just skipped school to spend all day with you so it's going to happen eventually."
"Okay," I told him, climbing from the car. I went up the porch stairs, Grayson following behind me. I pushed open the door. "Mom! Dad!"
My mom was the first to come around the corner. She was drying her hands on a dish towel. "Hi, honey. I got your message." She started to say something else but her eyes fell on Grayson behind me.
"Hi, Mom." I said. "This is Grayson." I stepped a little to the side so she could see him better.
"Hello, Mrs. Hunter," Grayson extended his hand to shake her's. "It's nice to meet you."
"You as well," my mom answered.
"Is Alanna back?" My dad called as he came around the corner.
"Over here, Dad." I answered.
He appeared behind my mom. "Dad, this is Grayson."
"Nice to meet you, sir." Grayson shook my father's hand as well.
"Well dinner is almost ready," My mom said. "Grayson, would you like to stay?"
"Thanks for the offer but I've got to get back home. My parents will be wanting to know where I am. It was nice meeting you both." Grayson said, shifting on his feet.
"Alright," my mom agreed as she and my father disappeared back into the kitchen.
I turned to him with a smile. "Not so bad."
Grayson looked at me. "Yeah, you were right. I'll see you tomorrow?""
I nodded. "Text me."
"Okay," he opened the door and stepped onto the porch.
I followed him out, rising on my toes to give him a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks, Gray," I whispered. "I don't know what I would've done without you."
He gave me a soft smile and pressed his mouth to the top of my head. "I'll always be here for you." Then he climbed into his car and drove off down the street.
I head back inside for dinner.
"So that was Grayson." My father said as we took our seats.
"He seems like a nice boy." My mother commented, passing the chicken to me.
"He is," I answered.
"Treating you well, I hope." My dad took a bite of his bread.
"Better than you can imagine." I speared a piece of my broccoli.
Better than I ever could have imagined.
