I took my heart
and held it out to you,
Fragile, fluttering,
Like the beat of new butterfly wings.
You looked my heart
and slowly,
Slowly,
You took it in your hands.
You had me,
And you knew you did.
Time passed,
and I started to believe that
I had you too.
You let me see you,
The true you,
and I loved you.
I loved every part of you,
and I thought you felt the same.
Then, something changed,
Like I knew it would.
Maybe my heart,
My care,
My love,
Was too much for you.
You put up the walls
That I had knocked down.
You held my heart
and shattered it.
Butterfly wings
into shards of glass.
You left me behind
Broken.
But still
After all this time
These broken pieces still
belong
to
you.
