Shades of Sorrow

***TRIGGER WARNING- DEALS WITH MULTIPLE SENSITIVE TOPICS. THIS IS ALL FICTIONAL, BUT BASED OFF OF REAL LIFE EVENTS***

Shades of sorrow
stain the surface of our world.

Red,
the lipstick left on your skin from the night before
"Don't worry, guys are supposed to like this."

Orange,
the plastic of the pill bottle
"Mommy, wake up."

Yellow,
the color of your little sister's favorite dress
"Here lies Lilian: our little angel."

Green,
stacks and stacks of dollar bills that some will never touch
"Daddy, when will we eat again?"

Blue,
rising oceans, melting ice
"Climate change is just a myth."

Purple,
bruises trailing up and down her porcelain skin
"You know I love you, baby."

Grey,
the ashes and rubble of broken homes in Syria
"All Muslims need to die."

White,
the bones that jut out from her starving body
"One more day..."

Black,
the darkness that ravages our minds
"Maybe I should just die."

Shades of sorrow
"What has our world become?"
