Deep Within

Stupid Malik

   The next day at school we all got settled in our seats. It was 3rd period already when the teacher made an announcement.
"Settle down class now I would like to let you all know that we have a new student joining us today."
There was a knock on the door. She walked to the door.
"Just in time, come on in Malik."
Upon hearing that name I looked up from my desk. It can't be, but it was.

   He walked through the door and looked around the class. I looked at Messiah but it was to late her eyes and his were locked on each other. Before the teacher could say another word he made his way to the back of the class and sat on the other side of Messiah. Reed and I exchanged looks and I put my head down. I can't stand school.

   Once the class ended I hurried to get out the class. I was so tired of hearing them flirt the whole class period.
'Oh what big arms.'
'You must really work out.' She says
How can she be falling for him out of all people why him?

   Reed catches up to me
"I'm surprised your eyes didn't change  because you sure did squeeze the shit out of that book."
I looked down at the text book and say it all bent in places it shouldn't be. I tossed the book in the nearest trashcan and proceeded to walk.

   "So you're not going to speak?" He asks
"Do I look like I'm in the mood to speak? I swear to Gawd if I see them flirting one more time I'm gonna blow! Reed I want to tell her so bad but I fear she's going to leave."
"You should tell her she needs to know especially now with Malik around."
We walked to the lunchroom leaving Messiah and Malik behind. We sat at our usual table and ate. When Messiah and Malik sat down they were all cuddled up talking not giving anyone else a care in the world.

   The next few days went just like that. By the time the 5th day came around Messiah confronted me. Something I was dreading since stupid Malik got here.
"Why are you so distant all of a sudden?"
"I'm not."
"Yes, you are."
"No, Messiah I'm not. Now I no you would rather be where ever Malik is so you can go."
"Is that what this is about? He is just someone I like, you know friends come first."
"I know Messiah but you don't understand so please just leave."
"No tell me what the fuck your problem is! You're over here pushing me away and every time Malik tries to talk to you you always brush him off so what is going on with you?"
"Why does everything have to be about him? Malik this, Malik that. 'Oh Malik you're so strong' why can't you ever shut up about Malik?"
"Well excuse me for wanting to talk to my best friend about someone I'm interested in."
"I'm interested in someone but you don't see me saying anything you don't hear me saying their name every time I open my mouth do you no."
"You like some one? Who? When? Why didn't I know?"
She started to sound apologetic, but I was still upset.
"Yeah I like someone but you wouldn't know now would you? You don't ask and lately everything has been about Malik so I never got a word in."
"Then tell me who. Who is this person that managed to do what no one I know has ever done before and catch your heart?"
I was saddened but not surprised that she didn't catch on yet
"You couldn't tell? All these years and you're still clueless? It's you. It's always been you."
My voice softened
"Ever since middle school."
Before she could say another word I walked away luckily we were alone for this conversation.
I hear her calling after me.
"Rowan........."
