Link and Zelda did not spend too much time in the temple, returning to Goron City in the late afternoon. Darbeck and the other Gorons thanked them for getting rid of the monster (as well as providing access to more rocks to snack on). The princess and swordsman were able to entertain the young Goron, Huno, for a bit longer, however they wanted to leave quickly. After some hasty good-byes, the two were headed back down the mountain.

On their way out, the two of them retrieved Link's horse from the stable.
"If I'm not mistaken, the Hylia River is rather close to us. Perhaps we could set up camp there for the night." She suggested. He agreed, and the two of them were off.
Roughly an hour later, they arrived and found a spot near the bank of the river. The sun would soon be setting, so their timing was perfect. Link started a fire for preparing the food.
Zelda stared into the water, observing the reflections of the evening sky. The river was nearly still where she was; it was calm and shallow. There were no rapids in sight. Just peace.
She heard Link's footsteps as he approached, and turned to watch him sit down next to her.
"Nice night," He remarked, "the water's so calm." She nodded.
"It's wonderful," There was a moment of silence as a gentle wind swept across the land.
She thought back to more than a week ago, when she had last been at the castle. She missed the safety and comfort of her home, however now she had tasted freedom. There was no one to wait on her, no one to stop her from doing anything. Though it had all been an odd experience, she was grateful for all that had happened. Zelda had accomplished so much in her time away, and she felt more alive and real than she had ever felt before.
"Let's get in." She said to Link, a crooked grin upon her face. Before he could speak, she was already taking off her boots and socks. Laughing, he simply followed suit. The princess tossed off her leather gear and then took off, nearly tripping over her own feet as she giggled.
The water was cool and felt refreshing against her bare feet. The ground was soft, unlike anything she'd felt before. She felt ridiculous, wading into the water while still fully clothed, but she felt free, and that was exciting. The two of them laughed so hard that they were gasping for air as they went further in.
"This is ludicrous!" Exclaimed Link. In response, Zelda splashed him, wearing a playful grin. He retaliated, and soon the two of them were playing around like children.
It wasn't until a couple of minutes later that the two of them returned to the bank, tired out by that sudden outburst of energy. Now that they were out of the water, their clothes were soaking wet and very cold.
The two of them took turns changing their clothes. Luckily, Link had some spare clothes for himself, as well as a nightdress that Zelda had acquired back in Makoto Village.
He hung the wet clothes up to dry by the fire, where the two of them sat down to warm up. The sun was setting, causing the air around them to cool down. He noticed that the princess was hugging her bare arms close and frowned. Reaching in his bag, he pulled out his cloak and offered it to her.
"I'm okay, Link, but thank you." She declined him.
"You're cold," He stated, "Take it." He thrust it into her lap, and Zelda cracked a smile. She wrapped his cloak around herself, feeling warm and safe inside of it.
"Thank you." She sat contentedly as he worked on preparing a meal. The princess watched him as he went, taking in every little detail of this perfect night. And while the skewers of fish were roasting over the flames, his hand caught her eye. For once he wore no gloves. In the waning light, she could make out something strange, but familiar.
The Triforce.
She glanced down at her own hand, then back to his. It was real! She knew this to be a sign, a sign that the two of them were part of something bigger. And somehow, in the strangest of ways, fate had brought them together, mysterious as it was.
"Link!" She exclaimed, "Your hand!" He looked at her, and then at his own hand. The young man wore a panicked expression on his face. "Why didn't you tell me about this?" She asked, he brows furrowing into a frown.
"I..." He started, letting out a sigh, "I don't know... it just showed up and I was scared. I didn't want to find out why." He looked at the ground. "I'm sorry."
"No, it's okay." She reassured him with a gentle gaze. "Do you know what this means?" She smiled and looked into his eyes, causing his heart to feel warm. "We're going to go and get the Master Sword."
Link suddenly felt dizzy. The Master Sword? The blade wielded by Hyrule's chosen hero. How could that be him? He was a common thief and nothing more. How could he make sense of any of this.
"You know, I figured you were special." Zelda said as the two of them stared into the flames. He looked up at her with a crooked grin and raised an eyebrow.
"How?"
"Well, you are the most talented swordsman I have ever seen."
"Thank you," He began, "but I was trained as a knight. That's why I'm skilled."
"But you are even better than any knight I have seen. You have a gift." She exhaled. "It isn't just that, though."
"Then what else is it?"
"Despite... all that has happened, you have a good heart. You had lost yourself before but I do believe you possess the courage and selflessness of a hero."
He grinned. "Really?"
"Truly."
His stomach twisted, but in a way that was alright. He was thrilled knowing that the princess thought highly of him-- that he was much more than a pathetic former knight turned criminal. He did not believe in himself much, but if she believed in him, then that was more than enough.
Though he was not quite sure where his place was, he was determined to do everything in his power to be better, for himself and for her.

The next day, the two of them traveled for many hours. Going all the way across Hyrule took much longer, but they wanted to reach the forest as quickly as they could.
Zelda spent the day calming a nervous Link, who was doubting himself as they got closer and closer.
Though the sun was setting, they still pressed on, the forest just ahead.
"If we go tonight, we can save time." She explained.
Quickly, they were riding under the blanket of the trees. They first stopped at the home of the Koroks, asking them to watch over their things.
The princess and swordsman were also reunited with their friend Peeks. The two of them told the little guy about what they were doing back in the forest.
"I knew that both of you would play an important role in Hyrule's destiny."
Zelda looked up at the Deku Tree, a smile forming on her face.
"It seems that fate has brought us together into something bigger than all of us. And we will work together to maintain peace in this land."
"You and that swordsman have strong, good hearts. I can feel it."
Zelda nodded humbly.
"Now go and retrieve that blade."
And with that, the two ventured off into the forest. It didn't take long for them to come upon a thick fog, the air cooling as they got closer.
Zelda and Link stood at the edge, looking in.
"Take my hand?" She asked him, hoping the feeling would calm her nerves. He laced his fingers with hers, took a deep breath, and the two of them stepped into the mist.
