To the west, the sun was setting, dipping below the horizon of a fiery orange sky. A hooded figure rode his horse to the east, the scene behind him. He rode alongside a small creek, the clear water bubbling as it flowed past pebbles and twigs. A frog croaked from its position on a rock, and a few small fish swam along.
He soon came to a clearing as the trees grew further apart until there were only a few. Up ahead, he saw his destination towering over him, looking as important and regal as always. As he drew closer, he had to stop himself from recalling memories that he would rather keep far away. He had only one mission, and he would see that it was done. Hopping off of his horse, he plucked a shiny red apple from a nearby tree, feeding it to his companion as he petted her muzzle.
"I'll be right back." He gave her one last reassuring pat, and then turned to face the castle.
The princess stepped out into the gardens, observing the brilliant sunset. She sent the guards away, requesting that she have some time to herself. Letting out a weary sigh, she sat by the fountain, gazing into the reflection through the stirring water. After a moment, she let out a groan of frustration, splashing the water with her hand and disrupting the clear image.
"I do not understand." She spoke aloud, projecting her thoughts to herself. "Why do they refuse my help? Why do they not believe me?" She sighed, looking back at her reflection as the ripples began to subside. "Is this what I have earned for caring about my people?" She stood up, hurriedly walking to the other end of the garden, leaning against the stone railing.
"Just because I am not Queen does not mean that I am a fool. They take me for some witless princess who only thinks of dresses and princes and silly things that do not matter." Her brows turned downwards as she scowled. "They are wrong! They will see that they have made a mistake, that Goddess-damned Council."
During this monologue, the hooded boy had sneaked his way past a fair share of guards and into the castle courtyard. Luckily for him, he had stumbled upon the west gardens, where he could hear a sweet, silvery voice asserting frustrated words to nobody in particular.
Following the sound, he crept over, approaching the railing and taking care to remain unseen. Cautiously, he climbed over the railing, hoping that the girl would not hear. He then quickly hid behind a tall hedge, waiting for the perfect moment.
She pounded her fists down, frustrated and let down.
"I am Princess Zelda of Hyrule, and I will show them they are wrong!"
He almost let out a chuckle-- now he was sure he was after the right person.
It grew darker and darker as the sun continued to sink lower, concealing the gardens in a blanket of dusk. Not wanting to miss his opportunity, the young man hastily made his way over to the princess, her back to him. Her mindless ranting was enough to omit what little noise he was making, allowing him to sneak right up behind her.
He sprang to his feet, seizing the girl with one arm and using the other to cover her mouth and muffle any cries. Zelda was extremely frightened, her heart pounding in her chest as she struggled against the firm grip on the stranger. He had caught her in a moment of weakness, and she was much too startled for her normally above average reflexes to kick in.
He pinned her to the ground, first taking the opportunity to tie a gag around her so the guards would not hear her protesting. Then, he bound her wrists behind her back and tied her ankles. Finally, he covered her eyes with a blindfold so she would not be aware of her surroundings. The whole time, she was kicking and writhing and trying to fight back, but her efforts did not stop him from picking the princess up and carrying her out of the gardens.
He headed back to his horse, thankful for the protection of the darkness as he made his way past the castle security again. He reached his faithful mare, finding a creative method to keep the princess atop as he sat behind her.
And just like that, they were off, heading back the way he came. Deep into the forest.

About an hour later, he finally stopped, carefully lifting the princess off of his horse and placing her so she sat against a tree. He bound her there so she would not escape, and then took a few spare pieces of wood out of his bag and started a fire. After some careful consideration, he decided to remove her blindfold and gag; they were deep in Faron Woods and it was not likely that she would know where she was, or that someone could hear them.
The princess took a moment to look around and orient herself, then glared at him. If looks could kill, the hooded young man would have dropped dead.
"What in the name of Hylia is wrong with you?!" She questioned him, seething with anger. Her face was bright red with fury as she struggled against her restraints. He did not answer, merely gazing into the flames as he watched them dance before his eyes. "Don't you know who I am?" She pressed on.
"Of course I do. Else I wouldn't have stolen you." She huffed, looking incredulous and enraged all at once.
"Bring me home this instant! This is completely asinine! " He kept quiet.
"I don't know who you are, or why you have done this, but I can tell you one thing: You will not get away with this!" He simply shrugged, offending her even more with his lack of response.
Taking a deep breath, she laughed bitterly, trying to compose herself.
"You are a fool." She told him. When he said nothing, she resigned to silence.
The hooded young man looked at her across the flames. He had heard many speak of the princess's beauty, however it was something one simply had to see for himself to truly understand. She had smooth, porcelain skin that looked much too delicate to even touch. Her eyes were round and her lashes thick and long. The irises themselves were a brilliant, emerald green that seemed to sparkle in the firelight. She had a rather small nose, and soft looking pink lips. Her cheeks were rosy, and even more red with the outrage she was currently handling. Her hair was long and caramel colored, with two tresses wrapped in ribbon hanging in front of her ears. A delicate looking circlet rested atop her head, complete with a blue jewel in the center. Her necklace also housed a blue jewel, this one decorated with the crest of Nayru. She wore a simple green dress that had long sleeves and a banner depicting a few symbols of the Royal Family.
Zelda kept her eyes on the ground, feeling uneasy under the stranger's gaze. She had tried to closely observe his facial features, but he kept his hood low to conceal himself. For the time being, he remained a mystery. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him shake his head.
"Rest up, Princess." He finally said to her. She frowned, not trusting that he would leave her alone as she slept. However, her exhaustion somehow outweighed her uneasiness. Despite her best efforts to stay alert, her eyelids only felt heavier and heavier. Taking his advice, the weary princess shut her eyes and prepared herself for the most restless sleep of her life.
