Chapter 3: Ali's Secret?

As Long As I Have You
Chapter 3:

~Last Time~
“Ali!” She runs over to her and holds her hair back rubbing her back gently to comfort her. “It’s ok. I’m here to help now Ali.” She reaches over to the sink and wets a washcloth with cool water and holds it on her forehead. “Feel better now?” She asked Ali a couple minutes later. “Yeah, A lot better actually.” Ali smiles weakly. “Thank you for staying with me Em, and for helping me.” She blushes a little. “That’s what Best friends are for.” Emily says and pulls Ali into a hug.

~Now~

Emily stayed hugging Ali for a few minutes then she pulled away and looked at her. “Maybe you should go upstairs and lay down for a bit?” She suggests. “Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.” Ali says smiling weakly and goes with Emily upstairs to her room after brushing her teeth. “You don’t have to stay here with me Em. I’ll be fine on my own.” She says as she lays down in her bed pulling the covers over herself.

“Ali, you are really sick. I’m not going to leave you all alone right now.” She says as she sits down on the end of Ali’s bed. “I’m going to stay here with you until your dad gets home.” She smiles a bit. “It’s no big deal for me to stay. I love spending time with you.” Ali lays in her bed looking at Emily then nods. “Okay I guess, If you’re sure.” She yawns still feeling tired.

“I think you need to get a little more sleep. Maybe then you will start to get better.” Emily says as she stands up and walks to the door. “I’ll see you in a few hours Ali.” Ali nods again and closes her eyes. “See you in a few hours.” She says sleepily as Emily closes the bedroom door and makes her way back downstairs to sit on the couch and watch TV for a bit.

After Emily finishes a movie she decides to go back upstairs and check on Ali to see if she’s awake yet. She walks to the bedroom door and opens it slowly looking inside. “Feel any better?” She says looking over at Ali who is sitting up in the bed on her laptop. “Yeah, a pretty good bit better actually.” She smiles at Emily and pats the bed beside her. “Come sit.” Emily nods and walks over sitting down on the bed and looks at Ali.

“So, whatcha doing?” Emily says looking at her. “Well currently I’m just doing a bit of online shopping.” Ali replies. “Maybe I could help?” Emily scoots over closer to her so she can see her laptop’s screen. “Actually this could probably wait till another time.” She says as she closes the laptop and puts it on her nightstand.

“You aren’t trying to hide something from me are you Ali?” Emily says looking concerned.
Ali shakes her head quickly. “Of course not Em! What could I possibly be hiding from you?” She says feeling a bit nervous. “Who are you shopping for then? You or someone else?” Emily says. “It’s for someone else. Why does it matter?” Ali says looking at her. “Who is the other person you are shopping for? Your dad? Jason? One of the girls? Is it something for me?”

Emily questions.
“No its for none of those people.” Ali sighs. “Then who?” Emily pauses and looks at Ali. “Do have a boyfriend now or something?” She asks hoping the answer will be no. “Actually, yes I do.” Ali responds. “I just haven’t told any of you because he wanted to keep it a secret for a while.” She shrugs. “Oh wow.” Emily says speechless and feels crushed but tries not to show it. “How long have you two been together for?” Emily asks.

“Around 3 months now.” She says looking at Emily. “That’s why I’m shopping for him. Next week makes 3 months that we’ve been together and I wanted to buy a present for him.” Ali says. “I just wish you would’ve told us. That explains why you have been so distant lately with everyone, because you’re mind is elsewhere.” Emily responds.

“Well now you know.”  Ali smiles a little feeling less nervous. “My dad should be home soon. You can go home now if you want Em. He should be here any minute.” Emily nods and gets up hugging Ali. “Congrats on your boyfriend Ali.” Emily says feeling really sad but not showing it. “I’ll talk to you later I guess.” She walks over to the door then goes downstairs and walks outside to her car and gets in driving home.

Once Emily gets home she runs inside and up to her room crying feeling really upset about what Ali had told her. “I can’t believe this. I thought I might finally have a shot to be with her. I guess I was wrong, very wrong.” She cries into her pillow eventually falling asleep after crying for an hour.

Ali sits at her house on her bed and continues shopping on her laptop sighing a little. “I really wish I didn’t have to lie to her, but I can’t tell her the truth yet.” She frowns and looks at the time seeing its around 4pm now. “I should probably go downstairs and get some of the soup she brought over.” She gets up and walks down to the kitchen getting the soup and heating it up in the microwave. “Last thing I need to be doing right now is skipping meals. Even if I will most likely throw it back up.” She says to herself.

Ali eats her soup and sits at the table with her phone beside her wondering If Emily is going to call her or not. “Maybe she’s busy with something.” She keeps eating her soup till the bowl is empty then she goes and puts the bowl into the sink then goes back upstairs.

…

A few hours later Emily wakes up again and looks over at the time seeing she slept for 5 hours and its now 9pm. “She’s probably asleep now.” She frowns and gets up going downstairs to get a small snack before returning back upstairs to go back to sleep for the rest of the night. After eating her snack she lays back down and turns her TV on watching a bit of a movie before falling asleep for the rest of the night.

…

The next morning Ali wakes up and checks her phone to see if Emily has texted or called her but sees she hasn’t and frowns. “Maybe I should call her and make sure that something isn’t wrong.” Ali says then calls Emily. “Hello?” Emily says stretching because the phone ringing woke her up.

“Hey Em, It’s Ali I was just calling to make sure everything was ok. You said you were going to call me last night but never did.” Ali says. “No nothing’s wrong Ali. Why would you think something was wrong?” She says thinking Ali somehow knows what happened last night when she got home. “I just I thought something might have happened since you didn’t call me. I’m really glad that you’re ok.” Ali smiles. “Yeah, I’m fine just trying to get woken up.” Emily yawns.

“I didn’t wake you up when I called did I?” Ali asks. “You did but that’s ok I needed to get up anyways.” Emily laughs a little. “How are you feeling today?” Emily asks her. “Honestly I think your mom’s soup recipe is magic. I ate some last night before I went to bed and when I woke up I felt like I wasn’t even sick in the first place.” Ali smiles. “Yeah my mom’s soup has been known to have magical healing properties.” Emily laughs.

“I was actually wondering Em. Do you have any plans today? If not I was thinking maybe we could go and get lunch together or something?” Ali asks. “I would but I’m sure it would make your boyfriend really jealous.” Emily says.
“What boyfriend?” Ali says then covers her mouth hoping Emily didn’t hear her. “Funny Ali you know what boyfriend. The one you were talking about last-“ Emily stops talking mid-sentence. “Ali, you don’t have a boyfriend do you?” She asks. “No.” Ali sighs. “Then why would you lie and say that you had one?” Emily asks.

“Because it’s really complicated Em. I’ll explain over lunch. See you in an hour at the Grille.”
Ali hangs up. “That was weird. Who lies about being in a relationship? And why?” She shakes her head then gets up and starts getting ready to go meet Ali.

A/N: Hey everyone! I hope you enjoyed this chapter. This is the longest chapter by far as of now. I spent 2 hours writing it lol. It was definitely worth spending that much time on though.
